It would depend on where I was living when the zombies came. If it was my house I share with fiance, our only pet is a bunny rabbit, so we’d probably open the cage for her and run without a second thought. Or keep it as a source of fresh food!

If I were at my parents’ property (where our “real” pets are), then we’d try and protect them as long as possible – we’ve got three horses that we can use when the cars break down (they always break down in zombie apocalypses), and the dogs would be very handy as an early warning system for the house at night. Luckily it’s a very isolated place, too, so we wouldn’t be likely to see many zombies, and we’ve got backup power generators, fresh running water, a huge vegie garden, and some cows. So we should be okay.

If you can’t tell, I hope I’m at my parents’ when the zombies come!

I would keep my animals with me- like in I am Legend.  He needed his dog for company and although my dog and cat might be less useful than his dog I would want them with me as well.

Regardless of whether zombies eat pets or not, without me he would starve! But zombies are actually my greatest irrational fear and I would absolutely suicide out at the first mention of a possible apocalypse, taking FI and my kitty with me. Then none of us would be suffering in an apocalyptic world running for our lives. I don’t get why people in zombie movies want to survive like that! But then I guess there wouldn’t be any movies…

@LadyElva:  Is your dad’s name Herschel by any chance? Haha, sounds just like Walking Dead.

    I would eat them.  o.O

HOW CAN I ANSWER THIS Q?!

@Pinkmoon:  That’s a great point.  I’m not sure if I am equipped to handle living in a post-apocolyptic world. I am NOT Will Smith.

@PinkMermaid:  The real question is “eaten by whom?”  Apocalypse and all, food supplies for all would be running low.

I’m sorry.  That was a horrible joke I just made.  DH teases too much about my darling cat being our “food insurance” and I have obviously picked it up.

They’re coming with me. My older cat is very overprotective and would claw out zombie eyes in a heartbeat. My dog would jump on the zombie and bite if he thought I was really in danger, too. My younger cat suprises me sometimes, because even though he is a baby who will cry if I’m nearby and the dog is bugging him, I’ve seen him take on the dog when he thinks I’m not looking. So he might not be much use for fighting, but he’s coming with us, too.
