Im just considering getting a membership eventually. But Im afraid that I would just waste getting the membership by hardly ever going.
For bees who have a membership to a gym, how often do u gi per week? Did u always go that often? When u first signed up did u barely go? Do u think your membership to your gym is a waste?
Thanks for any input. Please forgive any bad grammer. Typing on my cell.

I read somewhere that when you first start going you should go everyday for a month to just get into the habit. So I did that. I didn’t go full on at every work out, probably every other day, but I would go and bring a book and read for an hour while I was on the treadmill. Even if I just went for 1/2 hour I kept to it, to condition myself. Then after the first month I just kept it up, days I did’t go I felt guilty if I didn’t go. I kept that up until I was jumping over a 4ft fence (brilliant I know) and almost broke my ankle, I was in a soft cast for 3 months. So I’m trying to get back into working out, once I get my schedule set I will be back at it.

I bought a gym membership, never went. I ended up spending the money I would have spent for another year membership on a treadmill and a couple workout videos (Jillian Michaels). I use that at least 3x a week. I am more motivated when I have the thing staring in my face (it is in our bedroom) than I was when I thought about packing up all of my things and children, then going to the gym.
If you are truly motivated to use it, get a membership. I think you will get mixed responses, it works for some and not for others. However, the reason gyms thrive is because people buy memberships and never go. Good luck in your decision!

I previously wasted a ton of money on membership and personal training while in university… Getting engaged seemed to be the kick in the butt I needed. I initially signed up with a friend but she hardly ever goes so I’m proud that I’ve remained dedicated to myself. I’ve been going for 6 weeks now, well 7 but I didn’t go the one week I was on vacation. I have a weight training routine that I stick to and I love feeling myself get stronger!
It really just takes dedication, and just forcing yourself to go even if you don’t really feel like it. You might have a subpar workout, but you won’t regret that you went!

I go 6 days a week, every week. Sunday is my day off. When I first got it like 7 years ago I was a bit slack and barely went but when I decided I wanted to get in shape properly and started going 6 times a week it became habit and now I cannot imagine not getting up every morning to go. I’ve been doing it for over 5 years now. I don’t enjoy getting up super early but it really is just habit and once I am there I never regret it.

Earlybride: I used to go 3 times a week, but have increased to 4 times a week in order to get in better shape. I love having a gym membership. It makes me want to work out more because I hate wasting my money. I’m not someone who can work out at home and hold myself as accountable. The only times going to the gym has been affected was my first year of teaching which was also my Master’s year…there was just so much going on that I let my membership slide until I couldn’t stand it anymore. I think a memebership is a great idea if you’re going to use it.

Earlybride: I go a minimum of 4 days a week. Sometimes up to 6. However, it’s like therapy for me and I look forward to going. Most people don’t, and it took me several years to make it to that point.
I’m probably one of a handful of people who have gone regularly over the past year in my gym. We all have gotten to know eachother, which makes going more fun. I think any avid gym-goer would observe the same at their gyms. We notice there is sort of a revolving door… That everyone else usually sticks around for a few weeks and than you don’t see them either ever again -or- once every few weeks/months. My DH happens to be one of those people who fell off the wagon, and I cringe when his membership dues get auto drafted every month.
If I were you, I’d go somewhere where you don’t have to sign an initial contract. See if the first month goes good. You’ll know at that point if you will realistically stick it out or not.

my FI has a gym membership and i’m sad he only goes once a week. i think it’s such a waste of $$$. but he’s too tired on weekdays and gets too sore on weekends so he can only go once. >.<
i work out to DVDs at home haha.

I don’t belong to a gym because I’ve got a pretty decent workout room set up at home, and I run as often as I can. But when I did go, I went every day after work, and typically once on the weekend. I actually found that stopping at the gym on my way home from work made it a lot easier for me to stick with going. It wasn’t out of my way, I changed before I left work, and it just seemed easy. I think if I had to go home, put away my stuff from work, change, put my shoes back on, and go out again, I probably wouldn’t. That’s probably also why I workout at home instead of in a gym. But if you make it part of your daily habit, it gets to the point where you don’t know what to do with yourself when you don’t go.

I go about 4 times a week. I have a membership for group classes and that motivates me to go then to just workout by myself.

I wasted so much money on a gym membership. I think for a whole year I had only gone 3x!
I workout on my own at home and do it 5x a week. This works so better for me. I can Zumba and NOT feel stupid and there are no creepy on-lookers when I’m doing my squats. Haha.

I love group fitness classes like spinning & Les Mills classes like body combat and body pump. it’s very difficult to get to the gym if know I’m not going to a class. I would say on average go about 3 to 4 times a week. I’m definitely not a work out at home type of girl. I wish I could work out at home, to save some money, however gym memberships don’t have to be expensive, especially if you Take advantage of their resources.

Earlybride: I have an off peak classes only membership and that entitles me to go in the week before 5. I LIKE to go 3 times a week when my schedule allows it. Last week I managed that, this week I’ve not been at all. So I voted twice a week, because probably on average it is

I go about 3 times a week because I run 4-5 times a week so I don’t need the gym those days. My gym membership is $9.95 a month (seriously!), so it’s totally worth it!

I usually go 4-5 times per week and primarily do the gym classes (Zumba, bodypump). The classes make it so much more fun and motivating to go! DH and I go together and we know a lot of the people in the classes and are friends with the instructor now, so it is definitely noticed when we skip out!
Right now though we are training for a half marathon so we only go 2x/week (one zumba class and one bodypump) for crosstraining. We run outside 4x/week and have Fridays as an off day. Sometimes if we don’t have a lot of time we will run to and from the gym as one of our runs haha! (Like 2 miles each way). once the half is complete we will return back to probably 3-4 days at gym and continue running for maintenance.
Im also excited to continue gym classes when I get pregnant to stay in shape throughout the pregnancy.
