I am planning to either pay for my bridesmaids’ hair OR makeup (it’s just too expensive to pay for both unfortunately).
If you were a bridesmaid – which would you prefer to have professionally done for you and why?

Monk6552: Hair because I have a really hard time doing my own hair and it takes too long for a friend to do (I have a lot of hair). With makeup someone else can help me out with it.

Makeup, because I’d want my face too look good in the pictures. Makeup artists also know how to do makeup for photography and that will last all night. And there are a lot of girls who have no clue how to do their own…
Hair is just a lot easier for me. I used to have a pixie cut, now I have a bob – I don’t do anything to it. For a wedding, I’d probably make sure it looked smooth and whatnot. Every girl has hair problems and most know how to make it work for them. It really depends on how fancy you (the bride) want them to look.

Monk6552: I think it is going to depend on the person. Can you ask each BM to choose one or the other? Personally I would choose to have my hair professionally done, esp if the bride had a certain look in mind. I do my own makeup every day, pretty minimal though, but I feel comfortable with doing extra for special occasions, and DIYed my makeup for my wedding day.

Makeup, it’s easy enough to curl my hair or clip in into a simple up do and it’s likely no one would know it’s not professional but I personally feel makeup makes such a difference to the pictures and the overall wedding party look on the day.

Makeup. I am absolutely TERRIBLE at putting makeup on and I would want it to look flawless in pictures.

Hair. Im terrible at formal styles. I am really into makeup and could do mine and some of my friends so that wouldn’t be an issue.

I’d chose make up because I have a short hair cut and doesn’t require an updo so I could do it myself very easily. And like PP have stated, MUA know how to do make up that stays put and looks good on camera.

Monk6552: Although I am rubbish at doing my hair ultimatly makeup will look more striking in the pictures if done professionally.

Monk6552: I’m in the same boat. I’m paying for my BMs hair, then if they want makeup as well it’s up to them.
Some don’t feel comofortable have their makeup done, and formal hair is really hard for most people.
I think most will still be getting their makeup done as well though.

If all your bridesmaids have long hair, I think hair would be the way to go. If several have short or bob-styles that don’t really need much attention, I’d go with makeup.

Make up. I have curly hair. It’s very easy to make it look ‘done’. In fact, I’m doing my BMs hair for my wedding because it’ll take me 5 minutes after she dries it (she has the same kind of curls).
I can do my own makeup and look nice. But I’m not even half as good as a pro.

Hair, because I do my own make-up very well. I would not want to try to do my own hair for a wedding, even though I’m comfortable doing my own hair for everyday life. I wouldn’t want to try to do a professional updo myself, and, even if I were wearing my hair down, there is no way I could have it looking as great from all 360 degrees as a professional stylist.

Monk6552: Hair! My hair is long and while I can do it myself, I prefer to have it done. Make up, not only do I feel like a lot of make up artists don’t do a fabulous job, but a lot of them go on the cheap end… ie: I was just a part of a wedding where the make up artist was using e.l.f. Seriously? The bride dropped how much money for you to use e.l.f.?? Luckily I was doing my own make up. Mine lasted all night…

Monk6552: hair. I can do my own make-up but I can’t put my hair up by myself. I’d want it up so I didn’t have to keep brushing it to keep it smart for pictures.
