...where would you go? Why would you go there, rather then go the traditional route? If you did "run away," how was it? Was it difficult getting the marriage lisence and all that put together?
For me, the appeal in eloping is the low level of planning necessary. Just grab a white dress and head down to the nearest JP.
...I dunno, J is probably right in the long run - I would regret not having a wedding, as stupid and time consuming as I feel the process is for now. :/
Honestly, New Orleans, hah! Get married in something as crazy as what we're already doing! A voodoo ceremony of some sort, or in a graveyard at night :D That would be perfect!
I always tell FI that I wish we could have like 6 weddings. I would LOVE to have a DW somewhere warm and tropical. Mrs. Sea Breeze's photos and recaps made me want to go to the Dominican so bad! I would definitely love to have a Vegas elopement. I've seen weddings pics taken at the Neon Gaveyard (I think that's what it's called) and they're spectacular. Maybe for a vow renewal in 10 years...
Would go to one of the Big Sky states, probably Montana! I'd love to have a super rustic wedding like... I forget which Bee did it out there but she was my favorite- her wedding was everything I'd like mine to be, but we have so many people that simply coudn't/ wouldn't travel that far.
At one point I was looking into the regulations of getting married in England, since that's where we met. I just wanted to go to a town hall and then go down to the pub with our friends, but in England you have to have lived at the same address for 3 weeks and post banns for 2 weeks before hand, even for a secular marriage. So, we're just having a big party in London at some point for our friends who can't make it to the US for the wedding.
We're basically running away to some sun and bringing our friends and family.
ooh I might otherwise choose Disneyland, but I don't think J would go for that, haha.
I've got family in Barbados and LOVE IT THERE so I'd elope there!
We'd go to Jamaica! I'd love to go to some resort right on the beach and get married in the sand...:-) We actually briefly considered a DW, but it just wasn't realistic.
We seriously looked into getting married in Ireland but there are too many regulations. We're planning on going their for our 1st anniversary instead :)
I have no clue, I've never thought about it.
Bf would say Aruba. Yesterday, tyvm. :p
France. Absolutely loved it when I studied there and I remember, walking back alone on a rainy night in Paris, i thought to myself, when I find the love of my life, I'll take him back here and stroll along these cobbled stone streets with him.
So yeah, FRANCE!
Germany Germany Germany. FI and I both love it there - and we each have a large amount of German in our family. Plus - there's a castle there bearing my last name currently. How cool could that be?!?!?!
Somewhere beachy. But we'll never do it.
@rabbit - What made you ask? Are you looking for places to elope?
@texasmeredith- yes and no. I started out wanting to elope to somewhere with sand and beaches, but the FI put the kabosh on that idea. Then yesterday, when I was talking/whinning to my FMIL about how stressed I am over wedding planning, she told me she thinks we should just go somewhere and elope like she and her husband did. Which is funny, because while eloping was right for them at the time, my FMIL says that if she could do it over, she'd have had a full wedding. She missed the special moments, like getting a wedding dress (she got married in jeans and a t-shirt!), having a wedding party, and celebrating with their family and friends.
So many different ideas about where to elope to! @EAQ219- I'd have like 6 weddings too! One here in Milwaukee, one in Vancouver, one somewhere in the carribbean, one in Italy or Greece (or both!), and an awesome rustic barn wedding! Haha...I think i'd need a few million dollars to pull all that off!
I would love to get married in Italy - specifically Tuscany....but my FI spent his first honeymoon there - so this won't happen :)
I have no idea-either somewhere in the US that's fun-NYC, 1000 Islands, Disney (he wouldn't approve haha), somewhere fun or in Europe-Paris, London, Rome, Dublin, or Australia-Sydney.
Or I would love to elope & just get a couple people & go to the gazebo where we got engaged.
@pmerr- The gazebo where you got engaged is such a great idea!
I'd pick either Royal Plantation or the Sandals in Antigua where my sis went, sign up for the Preston Bailey package and let him/his cohorts do the work and just bring da dress!
Btw, my sister is staging an elopement (aka vow renewal) in Vegas in 2 years for their 20th anniversary! (she got married at 21 1/2). They want it wild yet somehow elegant and involving an Elvis. You can't go wrong with having Elvis marry you! (from a true Elvis fan and former Memphian btw!)
I think I would love to go to Puerto Rico to elope---since my fi is from there and we love the island.
I would also like Italy--though we probably honeymoon there.
I had to put my vote in for Canada since no one else did! Nova Scotia is beautiful. You could do a beach wedding, or a quaint town wedding, or even a city wedding if you wanted, in Halifax!!
Either somewhere in Europe, because he's German and all of his family is there, or somewhere tropical, because it'd be awesome. :p
Vegas fo' sho! We'd do it all the way - vintage short dress, skinny Sinatra suit for him, old car in the Elvis wedding drive thru. We almost did this, but it nearly sent his mother into hysterics.
I actually think that's super cool! I'm from Memphis originally and a super duper fan of the King! (he even knew my family)
I'd really like to have one of the flying Elvii (plural Elvises) in the light up jumpsuit marry me and sing love me tender!
Oooh you could have a mad men does Vegas with the King wedding! How cool would that be? And a vintage styled wedding dress!~
I know... I was really upset, but she was pretty good with the guilt tripping. He's the only one of her children to ever marry (his sister has Down Syndrome), so we gave it up.
Btw - one side of my fam is from Memphis too! My g-ma went to high school with him and still has the yearbook he signed - "To Helen, the prettiest girl in school. Love, Elvis"
We literally fight, every Christmas, over who is getting it one day.
Here's my idea of the bride in groom in fabulous Mad Men style (love her gown) and Elvis marries you at the Wynn Wedding Chapel:

meets

Oh wow..that's amazing! My mom was Priscilla's dance teacher and she briefly recorded on the same label as Elvis. (can you believe that?) She and Priscilla were friends and ate dinner at my grandparent's house (the ones who have been married 70 years)!
So I have to be an Elvis fan. He was a super nice person.
My sis thinks it'd be only proper somebody gives a nod to him somewhere. Heck I've thought of having "Cant Help Falling in Love" as my first dance!
i would go for south africa, because it's where we met and where we fell in love! Nature's Valley Beach is our favorite place in the world & a wedding there would be unbelievable!!!
I'd love to go to Itally....or somewhere warm the winter after we get married. lol.
We are eloping in Vegas on Saturday! It is going to be so much fun; we have a really nice suite/spa package through the Paris, have a really nice ceremony that will be broadcasted online so family can watch if they want, and plans for really great restaurants and a show! I hope it really is "fabulous" :)!
Ever since I saw the Paris elopment on intimateweddings.com, I have fantasized about eloping there, but we are definitley having a wedding in Sedona!
Italy! It'd be beautiful and so memorable, however I'd miss not having my family with me. We're going to try to go their for the honeymoon!
I would just go to the courthouse if we were gonna run away and get married.. Dont really see any point in making a big deal out of it if we were running away.. lolz
@OttawaBride2011- So beautiful! I need to visit! Now! heh. i used to live in Vancouver, BC and, as a youngin' just out of my parents' home, think that it would be the perfect setting for a wedding (which I always found odd, since at 19 I declared i'd NEVER marry or have children! hehe.) And Toronto has so many beautiful spots too! In fact, maybe Canada should start sprucing up its tourism image- draw the destination weddings in! I just don't think enough people (specifically here in the states) give Canada its due for how gorgeous and amazing it is!
@bellenga- OMG! LOVE IT! i could never pull that look off, but i dearly wish i could! So uber cool!
@thefuturemrsjewell- That is just Wow. South Africa is quickly moving up my list of places I have to visit.
@arizonabride- That Paris elopement was divine! Made me miss Paris! Its the only city I've been to that really lives up to its hype. It is the city of Love, hands down. It stands out as one of the most memorable places i have ever visited.
My "run away" dream was for a very simple affair at a beautiful, outdoor location in our hometown (nowhere specific). I love the beauty of weddings and having all of your friends and family there, but on days when I was stressing out about everything my dream was to just have something very simple and totally focused on our love for each other.
Australia!
My SO and I have thought about a destination wedding...but I think it would make both of our families rather upset.
I'm already having a destination wedding (ARUBA), but if I could choose any place without having to worry about money or legalities it would def be BORA BORA!!! That is my dream vacay...beautiful private beaches, over the water bungalows, romantic dinners...aahhh! One day it'll happen for me, at least thats what Fi says!
