I'm sitting here looking through my dress pictures, and am still as in love with my dress as the day I first saw it. But then I started thinking...when do people normally have dress regret? Immediately after purchase? When looking through pictures? After the first fitting? Between the first and last fitting? After bridals? The day of the wedding?

My curious nature got to me again!

So here's the question: Did you ever experience dress regret? If so, when did you experience it? I was going to do months, but since everyone buys their dress at different points, I decided to use "milestones".

I never had any regrets about my choice. I also didn't go looking after my purchase either...which I think was a lifesaver. But nope. No regrets. I love(d) my dress!

@MsMindle:  Yeah, I feel like if I don't let my eyes wander then I'll never find a dress I might like more (though honestly,  I love my dress beyond words, so I don't think I could ever find a dress I loved more!)

@Lyndzo:  Did you keep looking because you were unsure of your first choice, or just keep looking because you loved looking at dresses? Hehe :)

My dress regret happened about a year after I purchased the dress.  FI and I had a wedding date set and were planning on a Casino theme.  I wanted my dress to be simple with just a little bit of bling.  I found a perfect dress and loved it.  Then we changed our date and venue and I started to change the theme to rustic/vintage.  Instead of just working with the dress I had and making alterations I started looking at lace dresses and fell in love with one by the same designer.  So of course then I couldn't stop thinking about the dress and had to try it on.  I hunted for months for a sample and finally found one.  I ended up buying on the spot.

So I have learned DO NOT continue looking at dresses AFTER you buy.  There will always be a "more perfect" dress out there.  I ended up going $1300 over budget because of buying a new dress.  The 2nd dress alone was $1000 over what I wanted to spend, the first dress I bought at $650. I'm in love with my 2nd dress, it's everything I said I wouldn't buy in a wedding dress lol but I can't imagine not getting married in it.  So I definitely don't regret my dress regret or buying a different dress.  However, if we had kept our original date I wouldn't have changed dresses.  I would have either worked with what I had and made alterations or I would have left it as is...although I suppose I would have looked back at wedding photos and wished my dress would be different then.

Three months after I bought a vintage Demetrios dress from Brides Against Breast Cancer, I decided it wasn't the one. Luckily I could afford another dress, so I bought a Pronovias...and I know that isn't an option for some bees. However, people who compared the two dresses told me that the Demetrios doesn't have the wow factor of the Pronovias that I ultimately chose and I think it's more flattering and fits my theme/decor/venue. Plus I cry every time I put it on, it's gorgeous! So I think I made the right decision for myself. If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten my dream dress (Badgley Mischka) made at Jasmine's Bridal.

I am having dress regrets now, almost 2 months after purchasing.

During the summer I developed a neurological condition that has prevented me from doing heavy physical activity, and I gained 15 pounds. I bought my dress (An Allure Coutoure mermaid style) assuming my recovery would move quicker and I'd be 10 pounds down by the first fitting. Now my fitting is coming up (christmas time) and I haven't lost any weight because my recovery is moving slower than doctors and therapists expected.

If I had known I would be this size, I may have gotten a more flattering style with more rouching/corset to make me look smaller. I LOVE the dress, but I was imagining it on me with my previous body when I bought it. It's giving me a lot of anxiety.

@wbg21:  I wasn't really looking, I stumbled across the Alfred Angelo Disney dresses thread on this board. My jaw dropped when I saw the Cinderella and I couldn't stop thinking about it for a few days.  I decided to mention it to my mom, who instantly fell in love and insisted I go to a store to try it on.

I have really the whole time - more because I can't afford what I "love" and got something close. I'm convinced that the day of it won't matter :)

I had dress regret before I even ordered it.  I had it narrowed down to 2 dresses and I brought one of my BMs with me to help make the final decision.  I think in the back of my mind I already made my decision, so I don't know what was wrong with me.  Anyway, my BM said she liked the other one better, so that's what I did.  Funny thing is, I worked at a small bridal shop back then and my boss said she was going to get the dress for me for free. I told her which one my BM picked, but I was still thinking about the other one.

As soon as the dress came in, I hated it. I looked awful in it. Well, the shop I worked at shut down and I decided that I wanted the other dress, so I ordered it from another shop and nearly $1,800 later, I got the dress I really wanted.

Here's a guest pic...It's the best shot I have so far.

I had a tiny bit while I was waiting for it to come in. (so between trying it on and buying it AND finally getting to see it in person in my size on me) I have NO clue why I regretted it... because I LOVE my dress. But hey I guess it was because I hadn't seen it in what felt like forever... and the photo of it on the model online makes it look funny.

    have it right now.

I went into a dress shop not expecting to purchase. the consultant picked out an amazingly uniqu black and white dress....it had exposed tulle (one of my No no's) but I thought I would sacrifice. It was off the rack for limited time and I felt i should buy (paid it all in cash).

I was not a smart shopper (and funny thing is I am usually a great shopper and analize every purchase - even t-shirts!) and I didn't check the size. I just stepped into the dress and the lady clipped it up really fast right away so I didn't see how much bigger it was.

I read the dress info when i got home and i found it was about 5/6 sizes too big! I called the shop and told them my measurments and they confirmed. I took dress back to shop and their alterations said they can take it in (3 inches off back zipper, 2 inches each side and altering the bust and removing and readding boning) they said it will be costly if it was to be done right.

On top of all this the shop owner was more then pushy...I wanted to tell her off... but my MOH and I just said thank you and "we will be back in a few month for alterations" and left.

I am not going back to the shop, I just didn't want to fight over the dress in there.

Now I don't want the hassle of spending greats amount of money to take in the dress and have the alterations possibly ruin it.

So I am contimplating just selling it (it is up online for sale already) and I am looking for a new dress. I think I also want to go back to the traditional white...just because, I don't know why.

sorry for the long story, but this is how I came to regret my dress.

my dress regret came after I ordered the dress.  I started freaking out and really hating it.  After it came in I felt a bit better, but I still have a lot of dress regret.

Never, ever. I tried on about 80 dresses at 12 shops. Nothing even came close to my wedding dress. I cried the first time I tried it on and never felt the same way about any other dresses.

I still think about my wedding dress and the way I looked and felt in it!!

    Well...

I had my dress custom made.  I had tried on nearly 100 dresses (maybe more, I lost count) and while I liked several, I never had the feeling that everyone talks about of one being "the one".  I was driving myself and everyone around me crazy.

Then one day I saw a $5,000 Badgley Mischka gown that I just had to have.  Problem was it was $4,000 over budget!  I couldn't get this dress out of my mind.  I found a picture of it in a magazine and carried it around with me trying to find something remotely similiar.

Then I was talking to a seamstress that was a friend of the family and I showed her the picture and she said she could make that dress.  Perfect!

I went in for a lot of fittings and she made a dress out of muslin first instead of the expensive fabric so I really never got to see the real dress until it was almost ready.  To top it off, she would up behind schedule because she caught pneumonia.  I didn't pick up the finished dress until a week before the wedding and I totally hated it.  The seamstress was so proud of her work (and there really was nothing wrong with it, she did do a great job; it just wasn't the look I wanted) so I didn't dare tell her I didn't like it.  It was too late to get anything else because it was so close to the wedding so I had no choice but to wear it.

Looking back on photos, it wasn't that bad.  But I certainly did not feel beautiful and to this day I have regret over that dress.

I knew what I wanted but was kind of bullied by my consultant to get this one I tried on which was part of a trunk show. She had the designer, her manager, and just about every other consultant come over and fawn over me. I wanted to make tons of changes to the dress--should have been the first red flag. Once my mom started crying I was convinced to buy it. That night I looked at photos and didn't feel like I made the right choice. It wasn't my "dream dress" and I didn't feel like it was my wedding dress. 3 days later I was at the salon and got the most perfect dress for me. I am SO HAPPY I went back!!!

I bought my "dream dress" and the next day all I could think about was the dress and cried a ton. This went on for a week, after calling DB, they said come back in its here and try it on again. I didn't even have to look in the mirror, I looked down and knew it was horrid on me. SO if you really are thinking you dont like your dress, it should come to you right away!...PS got a new one :)

I bought a dress after trying on about 15 dresses at 3 different salons. I saw a picture of a Bee (Mrs. Cheetos, I believe) and her dress completely took my breath away.

I tried it on a few weeks later and had major dress regret and guilt. I ended up buying a very similar dress from the same designer (as Mrs. Cheetos' dress) and I absolutely LOVE it (and wish I could wear it again!)

I was nervous about it about a week after buying it and for the next 4 months thinking maybe I had chosen too plain of a dress. I was finally about to go check out this sample sale of another more blingy designer...just to look, thinking worst case scenario I would sell my first dress - when literally that morning I got a call that my dress had come in! I took it as a sign that my dress was like calling out to me not to abandon it haha!

So I went to the store and re-tried it on and took more pictures (it's still too soon to start fitting). And I fell back in love with my dress and how it fits and feels...and that I can add jewelry to bling it up if I want to. Also seeing all the other dresses again reminded me of all their little details that I didn't like which had originally led me to choose my dress.

I went dress shopping with my mom and my sister.  I specifically told them that I wanted a dress with no color.  Then my sister told the sales lady to bring me something with color because I won't know if I hate it unless I tried it on.  I ended up buying the dress because it was on clearance for $100 and it fit like a glove.  It was made for someone my size and body type.  My sister was taking pictures of me in the wedding dress and as soon as I looked back at the picture I hated it.  I did like the shape of it and it did not suit my figure.

I showed the picture to my MIL and she said the dress was perfect for me.  If I even mentioned that I wanted a different wedding dress she would stress how much she loved the one that I had and that I should keep it because it was perfect.

So I finally decided to go wedding dress shopping by myself.  And I didn't have any pressure to agree with anyone else, and I didn't have to feel pressured to buy a different on, and I only tried the ones on that I wanted too.  I ended up getting a beautiful wedding dress that was extremely flattering to my figure and even hid my little baby bump.  I am just grateful that I decided to go with my gut and buy a new wedding dress because if I didn't I can guarentee that there would not be one single wedding picture hanging on the wall.

I had slight dress regret when I saw a dress for less money I think I would have liked better. It went away though, I stuck with my dress and I ended up loving it afterall.

I had it.  Many times.  Usually after some time, and my wedding vision changed completely or I saw many different angles of me in the dress.
