I would look for something not too far away so you didn't waste a lot of time traveling. Is there anything on the VA coast that you two want to see?
I was thinking about trying to convince my fiance to take me to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando...lol.
Like the one we're going on? =-) We'll be staying at a large bed and breakfast about two hours away. It has its own nature preserve/hiking trails/nearby lake and is very much "us." There are a ton of parks, museums and favorite wineries nearby to check out, too. We were thinking more an hour out, but we just fell in love with the place, and two hours isn't too bad.
@danaadell: Haha that does sound like a lot of fun actually. I was thinking about that too, but every time I think about that, I seriously consider scrapping wedding plans and getting married there.
@kate169: I can't wait to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
I would also say not to go too far--maybe just a nice bed and breakfast or a super fancy hotel in a city nearby. Wherever you go will be awesome.
Three days would be plenty of time in Bermuda, especially considering it's such a short flight from the VA area. And the May-October time period is absolutely gorgeous!
Door County. It's in WI but it's a fabulous area to just spend a weekend in.
Edit: from GB it's a 30 min drive :)
@Ladytron: I looked at Bermuda, but it costs the same to go for three days as it would cost us to go to mexico for a week!
How about the Bahamas? Look at Apple Vacations to see if they have some packages from your city.
New Orleans or Vegas, 3 days is plenty in either city
San Francisco would be another good one for 3 days
New York City. I've never been, but never have the money to go!
somewhere in the caribbean...flight is short...Atlantis in the Bahamas I love....
How about Savannah? 3 days would be perfect. You can also walk the beach at Tybee Island (not sure if it will be warm enough to swim in May). There's so much to do and see n Savannah and I think it would be the perfect, romantic mini-moon!
I'd go to NYC!! Hit up museums, eat at amazing restaurants, and do some photography (huge hobby of mine). THey have some really cool boutique hotels i'd love to stay at.
Hands down Napa. We spent a few days there on our honeymoon before going on to other parts of California, but Napa was amazing! You can really enjoy it in 3 days no problem.
We're going to Victoria, BC :) we take a boat from seattle and back :) we're so excited!
Gatlinburg, TN is amazing. You can get a chalet in the mountains with a hot tub for a very decent price. Very Laid back atmosphere, you can go to dollywood or the other game/ride attractions. Hike the SMoky mountains national park or just stay in and enjoy eachother. My FI and I went over memorial day weekend and we plan on taking a long weekend there every year now!
We went to Vegas for a few days after our wedding. It was nice to get away and still a good amount of time see what we wanted to plus relax by the pool.
I'd vote for either Vegas, New Orleans, or NYC. San Fransisco could work too but it would be a lot longer travel from VA then some of the others.
If you're looking to stay on the East Coast, try the Florida Keys. It'll be warm, there's lots of activities, and you can relax too. Plus if you wanted to drive up to Miami for a day you'd be just an hour or 2 away.
We're going to Savannah for 4 days and we're really excited about it. We're doing like someone else suggested and spending a day at Tybee Island while we're there too.
You could come up to DC or go furthur out into VA like the Shenandoah Valley/Skyline Drive and spend some time there...winery's, hiking, you can stay at a B & B pretty cheap I bet.
Vegas. Vegas is so cheap. We eloped there. We got a room upgrade for free (well $14 tip). Rooms start at $35 a night. We def had a fun honeymoon there. Only one day. But we 2 shows and ate at a fancy buffet.
Have you ever been to the wineries in NE Virginia (Rapphannock County)? Seems like that might be manageable for you distance-wise and they are fantastic! Stay at a nice B&B and go wine tasting and such. :)
Vegas, for sure.
We only live 3-1/2 hours away, but sometimes it's hard to get away. I think 3 days of sitting pool side & drinking margaritas sounds heavenly :)
Hmm, it's a tie between Rhode Island, P.E.I and Hawaii if I had extra travel time :)
If I were going on a minimoon, I'd stay in a treehouse resort. But that may just be me, haha. Cities or beaches would be cool too. :)
I also agree with Rhode Island, go to Jamestown and take day trips throughout the state.
Where are you from? I agree w/ MissAanB--minimize your travelling time. It also depends on the season and if you want a sort of snowy getaway or tropical getaway, and on whether you want something more relaxed or to visit a city. I'd think of some of my hobbies and do stuff from there--so if you like nature, visit a national park. If you like culture, a big city. If you like relaxing, a cozy B&B or spa. Here are some ideas for things I think would make a great minimoon:
W. COAST: go to San Francisco. Spend 2 days in the city and 1 day driving up to Napa/Sonoma and seeing wine country. Alternatively, you can drive south and visit all the sleepy California towns along the cost--gorgeous. Other ideas: Las Vegas, Baja, Grand Canyon/Yellowstone/Yosemite, Santa Fe, Seattle, Joshua Tree/Palm Springs,
E. COAST: Personally, I'd go to Niagra because I'm a Marilyn Monroe fan and love the retro aspect of it, but Montreal is a short plane ride from most east coast cities and it's like being in Europe. 3 days is perfect for taking in the city. But you really don't want to go there in the winter! Other ideas: Vermont/Maine, Rhode Island Newport, NYC, Adironacks or Pocanos, Boston, Cape cod/Nantucket/M's Vineyard, Berkshires
MID-ATLANTIC/SOUTH: My beau and I want to do a road trip through the South, but I was so enchanted by Savannah. I love your idea of Harry Potter too. Other ideas: Keowah Island, Charleston, a million gulf coast towns, Florida Keys, Miami, N. Orleans, Graceland/Nashville, Ozarks, Charleston
MIDWEST: I'm not so good with the midwest, but lived in Chicago and let me tell you that city is the best. Wonderful for visitors, beautiful, fun. You could also go retro and do Mt. Rushmore or look into getting a cabin or something along the many resorts dotting the Great Lakes.
From VA where you live, I think there are lots of options!
Anywhere in New England - Newport, RI; Boston, MA, mid-coast or lower coast Maine, Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard even NYC would be close
Carribean locations - Aruba, St. Kitts, St. Lucia
Florida Keys
I would stay on the east coast to maximize your 3 days. And I would also be more inclined to do the Carribean or Keys if you're willing to pay for a flight.
Western coast. Anywhere is good along the coastline, really. SF, though, smells like urine and fish in some parts. People just pee in some of the streets so, you may come across a strong urine smell. And the piers smell like dirty fish. SF is worth seeing I suppose but it's really kinda nastay! Being from Reno, I would never go to Vegas for any reason! It's tacky like here but worse. If you like smoke-filled casinos with no windows..there you go. Reno/Vegas are so tacky and tourist-y. I can honestly say that I hate this town for so many reasons and I hope we move the heck outta here one day! Lake Tahoe is nice, I can say that much. Napa is nice, just don't stay in Napa the town unless you want a B&B by walmart or somethin. Stay in a town nearby, just not in the actual town of Napa. Just my two-cents!
My close friends are going to Florida for their honeymoon! Specifically to go to Disney and Universal Studios......to see Harry Potter. :) Sounds like fun to me. They actually asked us to join them the last few days to go to universal studios with them.
We're doing a 3 day mini-moon to DC!! Any major city would be fun because there's always more than enough to do, but you don't have to spend a ton of money or feel like you HAVE to rush around to see stuff since you're there. :)

Thinking about some mini moon ideas. We can't afford to go right after the wedding, but we want to go somewhere/do something! Ideas?
