Have you read the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" books?? I really enjoyed them!
@Dragonsus: No I haven't! I will definitely check them out. Thank you!
Good books are an absolute must for me during the holidays
I just read "The Maze Runner." if you are in for a simple read, this is it. And the second book "The Scorch Trials" is out and I'm in the process of reading that. This is definitely more young adult than "The Hunger Games" but it sucks you in pretty quickly.
I've been told about Percy Jackson. Maybe I will make my friend give me hers so I can read them (ahem...ask her oh so politely.)
I really loved the Percy Jackson series, and a lot of the Greek mythology from the books stuck in my head, so now I am a Greek mythology genius, haha..
You might like The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series) by Michael Scott.. or The Cabinet of Wonders (The Kronos Chronicles series) by Marie Rutkoski.. These are young-adult series, but I think they appeal to older readers much like the Percy Jackson books do.
I really liked Abarat by Clive Barker. This book is a little weirder but I thought it was great. I also highly recommend Neil Gaiman... He wrote Stardust & Coraline, and I also liked Neverwhere, The Graveyard Book, American Gods, and Anansi Boys. I read a lot, though, and I seem to like any and all books :)
@musthavedietcoke:I loved The Hunger Games! If you like the dystopian aspect of the books, you could try the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. Those book have a little bit of sci-fi in them, but not too much. I would also suggest the Chaos Walking series (The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer, and Monsters of Men). The dialect and writing style takes a little getting used to, but they're amazing.
A friend of mine and fellow librarian suggested I am the Number Four to me. I don't know what it's about, but apparently the concept was so good that Spielberg bought the movie rights before it was even published.
I also agree with PP - the Percy Jackson series is really great, especially if you like Greek mythology.
I just read The Hollow Land by Amanda Hocking. After the Hunger Games series, it is the first book that has stayed with me in a while. I think I just like kick ass female characters :)
I loved the Hunger Games series, I keep thinking about it and I finished it about a month ago! I have no advice on where to turn next, I read that series in between books 2 and 3 of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series, so I'm now reading book 3 of that! I'll definitely look in to some of these recommendations because I still can't stop thinking about it!
I devoured The Hunger Games! I'm reading it aloud to my 9th graders now!
If you like sci-fi/utopia/dystopia you might like Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, The Uglies Series, and The Maze Runner series all caught my attention after The Hunger Games. I absolutely LOVED the hunger games!
*sigh* I love the Hunger Games soooooo much! I can't stop re-reading them. I've heard great things about the Uglies series. If you like young adult books, check out The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks by E. Lockhart. It's not sci-fi, but a great novel with an awesome female main character.
With the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan has also started two other series in the Percy Jackosn universe, "The Lost Hero" - Roman mythology and "The Red Pyramid" - Egyptian mythology. I also recommend "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flamel" series, "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer, and also the "Temeraire" series by Naomi Novik.
I know, I loved the Hunger Games!
In terms of YA lit, I also recommend the "Uglies" series. And unfortunately, both of these are sort of old but Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy ("The Golden Compass," et al) and Lowry's "The Giver" are both great. Most people have already read these; I'm a bit behind the times!
Oh and the Linda Bray "Great and Terrible Beauty" series might be worth a try.
Dystopian Fiction that I've read:
I really enjoyed The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I think I read that whole trilogy (Chaos Walking) in a week. Here is the link on goodreads.

Here is another link from goodreads with nothing but YA dystopian novels. It might give you some more ideas.

On my list to read:
Hubby just read The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials. He said it reminded him a lot of the Hunger Games, but that it wasn't as good.
I just finished Matched. It's much slower than the Hunger Games, but I enjoyed it a lot.
I was a bit disappointed by the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Btw., how come all the heroines in these novels always have two handsome guys drooling over them? That theme gets a little old.
Another good one, but not YA is Oryx and Crake.
