My fiance picked our first dance song. He says it's his song for me. It's a beautiful song but I'm not sure it's fitting for a wedding dance. It's "Belief" by Gavin Degraw. What do you guys think? (You can youtube it.) Please give me opinions.

If your fiance picked your first dance song, what is it and do you like it??

Hah! If I let him pick it'd prob be "Jump Around". LOL

All joking aside - FI's super into music & he did kinda pick it. We're either going with "When the Stars Go Blue" by the Coors or "To Make You Feel my Love" (the Adele version) - he picked both songs.

Edit: Whoops, I didn't address your Q. I don't think there's really any right or wrong 1st dance - I think if the song means a great deal to you guys... go for it!

It totally would have been Eye of the Tiger.

I let him have it as our intro song, instead. Sigh, compromises.

he chose our first dance song:  "let's fall in love" by Frank Sinatra.

It's the song that played when he proposed, he chose it a looooong time ago.

He chose ours: Try by Blue Rodeo (an acoustic version - it is way better than either album or radio versions)

My FI wanted to pick "It's the only one you've got" by Three Doors Down. It's the song that helped him make the leap of faith to start dating me instead of hiding behing my life is fine being a single guy.

Anyway, I love the song but I didn't want it to be the song we started our lives out with because it is a pretty depressing song. and we ultimately decided on Im Your's by Jason Mraz. As this was the song playing after he proposed and it so represents our playful and fun personalities

I'll tell you though --- part of me thinks I should just let him have his song as he let's me have whatever I want and I think the song means A LOT to him.

All that to say......I think I know how you feel.

    Good Luck

    Jamie

Bless the Broken Road, Rascal Flatts.  He picked it before we got engaged.  he said it was his song to me and the first time i heard it he put it in my car cd player so as soon as i started my car it was ready.

It has to be our song and luckily it will work for a first dance song.

Yes, my husband chose our song: The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson.

It was/is PERFECT for us - and for a first dance. Sweet and sentimental, while also whimsical and light spirited.  It is also short and sweet (as we didn't want to spend an eternity with peeps watching us dance).

If you don't think your Fi's song is perfect, I would just tell him and work it out.  It is a small, fun detail and nothing more.

Thank you Jamie (Penmanwedding)! Belief is a beautiful song indeed, especially because of it's lyrics. Also, you've inspired me to just let my fiance have his song choice, since he lets me have a lot of the things I want.

And thank you MrsK2be - It is true what you said, it's just a small fun detail and nothing more.

He would probably go with "My girl," everytime he hears it he says he thinks of me :)

I wouldn't dare let him pick it...it would probably be either a Kanye West (whom I can not stand) or Drake song.

... Mr. KM would choose, if I let him, "How Deep is Your Love" but the Bee Gees. I wish, wish, wish I was kidding. But I'm not.

omg...if my FI had a choice, it would be something from the band Everytime Time I Die...for those of you who don't know what this is, just think of extremely energized metal dropping lots of F-bombs.

I just (reluctantly) agreed last night to let my FI pick our first dance song.  I do get to supply him with a list of songs that I really like and I get veto power.  I'm not quite sure how the veto power will work out because he wants to surprise me with the song at our reception.  I realize that I am not entirely answering your question.  I like the song your FI picked very much!  I figure, even if it is not the song that we (the ladies) would have chosen, it's very meaningful because it is something our FIs put a lot of thought into.

oooo, Dancy905 i LOVE Where the Stars Go Blue, so pretty :)  My fiance actually picked our song too, "Something" by the Beatles.  He just suggested it one day and I thought it was so sweet, since it's sung from the man's perspective about the girl.  (Even tho it was written by George Harrison for the two-timing slut who left him for Eric Clapton, who also wrote a song for her, "Layla"... but we'll ignore that fact lol!)

We're not going to have a first dance, but if we were, and if he were going to pick a song, it would probably be "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" by the Smiths, which I love, but which isn't a slow dance song. Or something by Wilco.

    I'd choose "Lover's Waltz" by A.A. Bondy.

@Dancy - Is this Corrs song that you guys are talking about the one that was written and originally recorded by Ryan Adams? Or is it a different song with the same title?

If I had to venture a guess, knowing his musical tastes, it would either be Kings of Leon (more than likely "Use Somebody" which works for me) or something by Frank Sinatra.

My FI picked ours Quizas, it's a old Cuban song (P.S. I'm Cuban- he's not lol), but it's been remade by Cake and it was also the Coupling theme song. So it's like our little inside joke that we love Coupling so much so we sing the theme song "Perhaps" whenever it comes on. Soooo.... Quizas is the original= our first dance.

Whew that was a longer explanation than I thought it would be!

He picked thank you by chris cornell (originally led zeppelin). I was busy telling him that he would not be in charge of picking our song-before we were even engaged- when he said he already had one picked. Then he played it for me and it actually made me cry.

The song that FI would choose as our first dance song is actually the one I wish we could dance to. It's meaningful to us, makes us think of each other, has some memories attached to it, and we both love it. Unfortunately it's not appropriate for a wedding. I never thought such a sweet song about love could include lyrics that would shock so many people. On to the next!

He said that since I made all the other decisions, he really wanted to pick our first dance song & he picked "Someone like you" by Van Morrisison, when he said that is the song he picked & I asked "why" he said the lyrics were perfect for us...ahh I want to burst out into tears just thinking about it!! :)

My fiance and I are choosing our song together. However, he suggested "Such Great Heights" by the postal service (the acoustic version), and I LOVE it. We deciding between that, "The Luckiest" by ben folds, "Somewhere Only We Know" by keane and a few others. I don't think you should worry about what other people think, who wants to be like everyone else anyway? There is no right or wrong song, as long as it's special to the 2 of you!

Oh God! My FI said he wanted a disco set, and last night he was listening to all these disco tunes on YouTube and he suddenly picked two songs he wanted as our First Dance.

KM Sull -- he wants Bee Gees How Deep is Your Love (noooooo) or (from Saturday Night Fever too, but a little better) More Than a Woman, Tavares.

Our song is actually Van Morrison's Someone Like You, which a bee mentioned on here. and I had so many other sweeties picked out for us.  Now we're on a slow but still disco craze for our first dance.  It's fun though and I'm so happy he's getting so excited.... I don't want to throw salt on his tail or anything....

My husband picked our song too! I had been planning our song for years--before we were engaged! And then one night, there was an episode of Crossroads on CMT with Jason Aldean and Bryan Adams...Jason Aldean sang "Heaven" and my fiance got tears in his eyes and looked at me and I knew that was the one. It wasn't so easy getting the song for the DJ but we did and it was perfect.

FH wants the song 'god damn your  beautiful" by Chester See. I know the title sounds horrible but the music has a fantastic piano melody.. but we cant use it... because my parents are religous and if it wasnt for the one line in that song we would!

I don't think FI would know where to start, he isn't really a love song kind of guy. I just chose a love song from his favorite artist, and he was happy. We are dancing to "Little Trip to Heaven" by Tom Waits, the version with a lone trumpet if anyone knows it.

And if anyone else likes him, we are totally sending Tom and invitation to our wedding. He only lives an hour away, you never know....

M is picking all of our music.  he actually wants to pick what I walk down the aisle to!!!! Honestly I said go for it (he is REALLY excited about this and I tried to talk to his brother in law about an instrumental and he just flew off the handle and said this was HIS contribution). My response was "yes dear"
