I know typically, brides plan their weddings around their period. Well, I wasn’t given that option in the beginning of the wedding planning. Alas, here is my dilemma.
My wedding is next Saturday. I’m scheduled to start my period that Sunday. I’m on Estrostepe birth control. They say this pill is way stronger than other bc I’ve taken in the past. If you mess up on your pills (even once or twice in a month) you could start your period early. So, I’ve been realllllllly careful this month about taking my pills exactly when I’m supposed to. But I’m not sure if because I messed up on my pills last month, if my body will need time to get back on schedule.
Is there anything at all I can do to maybe postpone my period a day or two after the wedding? Or am I just screwed (no punt intended) and will prob not be able to consummate my wedding until the week after?

My worst nightmare…. Can your doctor give you advice?

I am not familiar with the particular kind of birth control you are on, but I know that I can start a new pack and that would keep me from having a period for that month.
I would check with your doctor to see if this would work for you.

@alaydelette: Agreed. That should work, but definitely check with your doctor first.

can you stop and get your period now so you will be off of it next week and start your new pack?

Can you not have sex Saturday (wedding night?) you said you start Sunday…
Agree with other bees, u can start a new pack but to prevent a period. But better safe than sorry!

I just went to my doctor the other day, and I complained that I’ll be on my period for my honeymoon as well. She told me to start taking my new pack of pills (i have ocella…I think it’s generic yazmin…) a week early and skip the inactive pills this month.

Agreed with the moving into the next pack – you may get some spotting, but it shouldn’t be unsafe, and at least you tried.

Agreed with others, just to add my two cents. I’d be in my second week for the wedding – perfect! but on my period for the honeymoon a week later – boo! It was time for my checkup and a new year’s worth anyway, so she wrote me a scrip for packs with no placebos. She suggested I skip the “off week” this next time as well as in November, so it’ll have a better chance of working. But she also mentioned I could start cramping and spotting, so there’s a chance you may need to go off and get a period anyway. Good luck!

@vmec: I could definitely have sex if I start on Sunday. But what I was saying is that since I messed up on my bc pills last month, and ended up starting on a Thursday instead of Sunday, I was worried I’d already be on my period come next Saturday because my body might not of had enough time to get back on track.
Honestly, I didn’t even think of starting a new pack! Awesome! Thanks ladies, I appreciate the help! I bought a really cute piece of lingere that I’d hate to see go to waste lol!

FYI, this may or not be the case for you, but i tried the whole starting a new pack and skipping the inactive ones and it totally backfired. lucky for me, i decided to test it months before my wedding. and what happened was i spotted for about 3 weeks straight, i kid you not. its possible this method can work, but i am proof it doesnt work for everyone. what i ended up doing was 2 months later, i skipped another week of inacvtive, had to suffer through another 3 – 4 weeks of non stop spotting, but then it moved my pill schedule around so that by the time my wedding came around, i would be starting a new pack the day i leave for Jamaica and just getting off my period.
so based on my experiences, and in your situation, i would be more inclined to take Julesb81 idea of stopping now for a week and starting a new pack next week.
everyone is different though. if you have tried in the past the whole skipping the period for a month and it worked, then everything i said is moot!

you can skip the inactive pills and go straight to a new pack but do it 3 months in advance to give your body a chance to get used to the new regimen. then after teh wedding go back to the normal regimen where you took the inactives to let your body cleanse. the spotting is normal at first because your body needs to get used to this new schedule but should decrease by the 3rd month, and since its not medically needed to have a period while on birth control youll be safe. 🙂 hope this helps
