amchapman24:  What are you looking for in a venue? What’s your budget? Illinois is a huge state, where, specifically, where you looking?

I had my wedding reception at Maggianos Schaumburg and it was just wonderful.  They have a beautiful space upstairs, have some of the most reasonable packages around, the food is the same food in the restaurant (not your typically crappy wedding food!), and their banquet staff is just absolutely wonderful.  I really couldn’t be more happy with it.

Our second choice was Lincolnshire Marriott.  Heard great things about it, but it was more expensive, and Maggianos was more our vision (we just really wanted great food and were hoping for something slightly more offbeat than a hotel).  Even though it was more expensive, it was still less expensive than most venues (it is SUCH an expensive area to get married in).  In general you will find banquet halls to be the cheapest.  We didn’t want those because we wanted something a little more different, and typically the food is horrible at banquet halls, and food was really important to us.

amchapman24:  I would try Oak Brook Bath and Tennis club- beautfiul venue and they let you choose from their list of caterers-they have like 4 or 5

I don’t think many venues around here let you pick you OWN, but some who do allow outside catering will have a list of a few caterers you can choose from. I tried to go that route but found they werent that much cheaper.

We almost went with them – they will heat the outdoor patio for you if you are looking winter

Also maybe try Hyatt Lodge- would be gorgoeous with the fall leaves! Same with Morton Aboretum

Now is your 20K including the taxes and what not? Or total? Both Hyatt Lodge and Morton Aboretum have minimums of around that price

I was looking near there for awhile and came across South Branch and Fulton’s on the River, which are right in Chicago, but I’d suggest checking b/c you can search for venues anywhere in any state. It helped a lot until I was able to find my venue. Hope this helps!
