Yup, DH and I have been told by so many people to read Harry Potter and now we are.

I felt weird picking the book up at the library.  I had to get it from the young adult section, there were kids in elementary school picking out books in the same area.

I picked it up and it looked really kiddish and I had to ask the librarian to make sure I wasn't getting the little kids version of the book.  Felt kind of stupid when he said there is only one version.  hehe

DH and I were the few people who avoided Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings while in  school.  I don't know why.  I never saw the movies until the girls at work, got me to see the movies.

Well, I'm half way through the first book and I'm liking it.

yay! The books get so much better, more involved and lots darker. The first one is sort of 'quaint' to look back at! Enjoy! :)

My partner read all the HP books a couple years ago, and we're in our twenties. I find them an enjoyable escape, although J.K. Rowling's writing style annoys me in a couple of the books. I still own all of them, though, and I'm re-reading the last one now.

If you like the first one, you'll probably get hooked and have to read them all! Have fun!

Yay!  Harry Potter is so not a kid's book!  Though I have to admit that the first three are a little more painful for me to read now because they are a little childish but still great series!

Fun! I read them all, except for the last one.  I have no idea why I never finished it... but it's still sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

I avoided the Twilight books like the plague, until I bought the first one earlier this year (it was only 75 cents, how could I say no?) and became addicted.

My kid bugged me for years to read the first Harry Potter. I fell in love and read all of them in about 5 months! She also bugged me to ready Twilight; I loved that too but didn't make it to the other books in the series.

    LOVE HP!!!!

FI and I both read them at 25/26 for the first time. And now we have both read them through twice. We own the "adult hard back set" which has more adult covers LOL!

They are so good! The first is still a little childish (1-3) but by the end it is pretty much an adult book!

Heh, I read them in my late 20's/early 30's. But I'm also a big LOTR fan. FI was making fun of me at first until I gave him book 4 to start with...Then he became hooked too. For book 7 we actually had two shipped to our apt the day it came out like supernerds, and spent all weekend reading side-by-side.

I have to say I was disappointed with the last book though :( Not so great an ending to a great series IMO.

Yay!  I wish I was reading them for the first time...now I've read them more times than I'd like to admit!  My FI was incredibly uninterested in the series, until one weekend when he watched the FOUR movies that were out at the time (yes, during the same weekend).  I love the movies too, but the books are definitely worth reading.  After seeing the movies, he was convinced that he should read the books too and now he's just as into it as I am.  Hope y'all love it just as much!

I love Harry Potter!  I read the last book in 1 day when it came out!  @JeniRae is definitely right - they get much more adult as the series goes on.

I started reading Harry when the 2nd book was released. I was looking for something fun to share with my baby brother and it had been suggested that it was something that we could enjoy together (he's now 23, I'm 34). I remember reading the first one and thinking how awesome it was, it was the same feeling I got reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or The Witches. I'm a huge fan I own all the books and have been in line when they come out since the begining. The movies are fun the first 3 were great but the last 2 (especially this last one) have really strayed from the book so you'll enjoy reading it as it was meant to be. It's a true adventure, enjoy.

I LOVE HP!  I reread some of the books occasionally.  The second book is my least favorite, but they're all good after that. :)  You're never too old for HP, IMO.

Those books are great! I'm 28 and I just re-read them last year. Really beautifully written engaging stories, and they get more grown-up and dark as they go on.

I love Harry Potter!! I actually have to start re-reading the last couple books, the 7th book at the very least. I need to remind myself about everything that happened so I'm prepared for the movie!

Too funny- I am 25 years old and I read all of book 7 for the umptienth time yesterday on my day off. It is like 700 pages and it took me all day.

Don't even think about being too old- just enjoy it.

I was already 28 when I started reading the HP books and watching the movies, and the reason why I did it is because my 30-year-old husband insisted I watch the movies with him, and then I got curious about the source material.

IMO, one is never too old to enjoy "kiddie" things. Cartoons, toys, children's literature, whatever, you're never too old to enjoy it. Some of my favorite TV shows are animated, and I've bought various DVD boxsets from the 'kid's section' and it's really no big deal. So you shouldn't be embarrassed to pick up the HP books from the library.

Hell, I've even read HP fanfiction online. My favorite was one that explored the second book from the point of view of Ginny, and chronicled the possible interactions she had with the diary. I thought it was fantastic and very creepy and dark. Gave me chills. Then again, the second book is one of my favorites in the series, so yeah =)

I'm also 26 and haven't had the pleasure of reading any of the Harry Potter books.  My best friend absolutely loved them and by the looks of things here, so do you guys.  I will have to put this on my Goodreads shelf as "To Read."

Harry Potter books are great.  I started reading them when the first one came out when I was 12, but was still reading them the second they came off the press when I was 23.

I love Harry Potter! Not so much the movies, but the books. I think you'll really enjoy them. I have to say, the first and second (in my opinion) are not nearly as good as the later books. I especially love the 3rd and 6th.

There's no shame in reading Harry Potter! My mom's read all of the books, and I know many many 20-somethings who are big fans.
