We just added Bee Levels as promised!

You can gain levels by posting to the boards. Here are the levels:

    Wannabee: 0 posts
    Newbee: 5+ posts
    Worker bee: 50+ posts
    Helper bee: 200+ posts
    Busy bee: 1000+ posts
    Bumble bee: 2500+ posts
    Honey bee: 5000+ posts

We'll post about this on the blog tomorrow, but wanted to post first in the boards. :-)

What do you think of the levels?  And what level are ya?

Cute Idea!  I'm a Helper Bee -- it is quite a big jump to the Busy Bee.

By the way, Mr Bee, do comments on the Bee's post count too, or only on the boards?

The software we're using can only count comments on the Boards... not on the blog (which uses different software).  Maybe we can find a programmer to add that later?

For now, we're stuck with boards-only post counts...

I'm just a newbee! Seems like by the time I get to most threads, I'd just be repeating something similar to what's been said. I like to feel like I'm adding something new to the conversation. :)

Oh, and in regards to the categories... they seem a little too spaced out to me. Maybe a different level every 100 posts or so up to a thousand? Then bigger gaps between? Maybe that's just my newness talking. :)

Sure we could add levels... but you'd have to come up with names for them!  We're all bee'd out over here :-).

I'm a helper bee! These are adorable!

I suggest readjusting the levels. I accumulated 200-odd posts in 7 months (which to me felt like a lot)...so it would take me years at this rate to get to the next level of 1,000 posts, and most people probably don't stick around that long. It would be more fun to work to get to the next level if they were closer together. I suggest:

    Wannabee: 0 posts
Newbee: 10+ posts (5 might be too low a threshold)
    Worker bee: 50+ posts
    Helper bee: 100+ posts
    Busy bee: 250+ posts
    Bumble bee: 500+ posts
    Honey bee: 750+ posts
and....Queen bee: 1000+ (you can credit my husband for this one)

Also, could the bee level status display as part of the member profile?

We would've come up with more levels, but we had trouble naming them!  If you can come up with names, we can look into adding some extra levels in between :-).

It does seem impossible that anyone would ever reach Busy Bee status (1000+ posts)... but two people have already reached it!

We thought about a Queen Bee, but it kinda suggests that the Queen is in charge of all the Worker bees and whatnot.  Plus, if there were two queens... half of us would have to leave and start a new hive.  That sounds like a lot of work!

Others are making my point for me: the current distribution of levels (specifically the jump from 200 posts to 1000) makes it too hard to get to the upper levels for the vast majority of users. If a goal is too out of reach people won't bother trying to achieve it. If only two people (out of hundreds? thousands?) have gotten to busy bee status (1000+ posts), then no one is at the top two levels. So for all intents and purposes you may as well not have those levels. You are creating a skewed distribution.

Why not adjust the post counts downward to make them more accessible to weddingbee users as a whole? If in the future you find a distinction among those with 1000 versus 2500 or 5000 posts is necessary, then you could create more higher levels.

Let's see how it goes!  If the levels are indeed out of reach, we'll consider lowering them.  But we're actually going to be making the boards MUCH better over the next few weeks, so we are looking forwarad to much higher levels of participation.

For example, picture uploads should increase activity quite a bit!  Also: polls. :-)
