I have always had a passion for older music, 50's and 60's to be exact. I am 24 years old, and I always hear that I am an older person stuck in a young girl's body lol. I work in a nursing home and was going through some old Cd's our residents had. I found a CD that was labeled Big Band Love Songs. So I picked it up and popped it into the Cd player. W.O.W.

    Glenn Miller- Moonlight Serenade

so romantic, and magical. I get goose bumps listening to the orchestra play. FH agreed that it is amazing and we can have it for our first dance! :)

Everyone has to listen to this! go! :)

I LOVE Moonlight Serenade. I'm a huge fan of music from the 40's.  I always tell my FI that I'm reincarnated from that era.  I love everything about it.  The fashion, the music, everything.

I'm also a fan - very romantic.  We had this play during dinner at our wedding.

This is one of my favorite songs too! I'd also consider myself an "old soul"! =) We're dancing to "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra! There's just something so romantic about music from our grandparent's generation!

YES! I enjoyed that. It's so pleasing to the ear. It reminds me of those big band days! I wouldn't say I'm an old soul but I do appreciate music from older era's, especially the fashion of that time! I think that if I had more money I'd have a big band wedding. Here's a pic, I found. I could picture your song with this ambiance. So are you going to use the song?

I always wonder what our children are going to think of our music today. I am really not a big fan of the hip-hop and rap generation. I dont mind it, but you wont find any of it in my car. There is just something about our grandparents generation that is so magical. StephinPA- I agree, the music, the fasion, the era in general is amazing. I highly doubt our childrens' children will think that about our generation.

my hubby is from NOLA, and one of my "splurges" was hiring a trumpet player for our wedding...while not quite the same, we had a never before performed song, written by the trumpeter, of a latin/jazz song that we danced down the aisle to after our nuptials....everyone loved it!

I'd consider myself an "old soul" as well heh We had nothing but 40s 50s and 60s music playing at our wedding. We didn't have dancing so we just stuck in a CD with a bit of ambience music, but if we were to have the whole she-bang, so I would have wanted a big band. I like moonlight serenade as well. I too wonder what our kids will think of today's music. With a few exceptions (Colbie Callait, Michael Buble, Justin Timberlake... :x) I don't listen to it lol

Oh that's beautiful :) I have been listening to Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra sort of stuff lately, hit me out of no where and I have no idea what started it... just loving it! My FI got in my car the other day and was like um, what is THIS!? lol He's an Avenged Sevenfold kind of guy (don't get me wrong I like them too, but nothing like some Sinatra!). I'm thinking that we will definitely have this type of music at our 'after party' dinner. He agrees that it is more appropriate for a dinner party/after party than his type of music (especially with grandmothers and such in attendance).

Ohh me too! My mom always joked that I should have been born in the 30's.   I would have loved to have grown up in the 40's and been a 50's houswife (terrible I know!)  Love Glenn Miller...it used to be my Granfathers fav!

My FH grandmother calls me her twin from another era lol. She says I think like an older person and have wisdom beyong my years. ha. We share the same tunes on Itunes and we take car rides together just to listen to music. She is amazing.

I think music takes people back in time. The orchestra music makes you feel like you are right there with the band as they play. I love it. Glenn Miller's orchestra is breathtaking to listen too.

    Some of my fav's:

    Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers

    The Shirelles

    The Temptations

    The Drifters

    Marvin Gay

    Glenn Miller of course

I could listen to them all day

I'm a kindred spirit with y'all!  I sometimes say I was born in the wrong era.  I wants hats, gloves, and good manners to come back!  I'm very excited to have some jazz for the cocktail hour :)

Can you be my new best friend?!?!?!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I'm 26 and only listen to oldies, classic rock. I've been asked how old I am a million times in my office when people hear me singing along to songs that were made before my folks were born!

I've sung in doo-wop before, and I adore that music.  We're having all old jazz as our dinner music, and Glenn Miller will be included.  I fully expect my Nana to flip out.

    the Notebook!!!

I called my FHGM the other night and asked her if she ever saw that movie and she said no. This weekend is our monthly movie night at the inlaws and I told her I would bring it. she is so excited lol.

Her and Pop have been together since they were 11 (her) & 12 (him) years old. They got pregnant at 15 and had 4 kids by the time they were in their early 20's. they have been together 50 yrs as of last month. They are the cutest couple in the history of older couples. That movie is almost identical to their relationship except they dont live in a nursing home yet. sigh...i just love her.
