The diamond is an emerald cut. Exactly what I wanted. It's something not a lot of people have and I've always seen myself with a simple solitaire engagement ring.
He had the ring for 6 weeks before he proposed and he waited to ask my parents for permission until the day we left for our trip because my mom can't keep a secret to save her life. He was smart not to tell her.

bling bling! congrats!! my FI couldn't ask my mom because she ABSOLUTELY wouldn't be able to hold it in. he asked my dad right before though :D such a sweet proposal!
I forgot to add... the proposal was also in the same city where his granddad proposed to his grandmother. Soooo sweet....
His grandparents lived overseas after WWII working for the military schools and they got engaged while visiting Interlaken one weekend. His grandparents suprised us at the airport and his grandma joked with me that her grandson did a lot better job than his granddad did, she was proposed to in a restaurant in town despite having some of the tallest mountains in Switzerland a cable car ride away! I love his grandparents, we can only hope to be as in love as they still are almost 60 years later!
Congratulations! Sweet location and love your ring! Mine is emerald-cut, too, with a narrow band. There's a baguette (non-tapered) on either side that matches the width of the band, but otherwise, it's really similar to yours.

My SO proposed to me on top of a mountain in Switzerland on our vacation last week. It was so beautiful and romantic and special. After waiting all this time, it was totally worth it. He had this planned when he gave me the trip as my Christmas gift last year and when the trip got postponed because of his new job, he decided to keep waiting to it would be really special, and it was.
Thanks ladies for all your support while I've been waiting! We are over the moon excited about being engaged. I'm having a hard time getting pictures to load today (I'm at work), so if these don't work, I'll keep trying and see what I can do).
