- Wedding: June 2014
It finally happened, I’m engaged! My FI (crazy to say that!) and I have been together for 6 1/2 years and we both felt it was about time! Here’s how it happened:
I went away to Virginia Beach for the weekend to go see the Backstreet Boys in concert with my bff (and now MOH). When I came home on Sunday, I was tired and looking forward to a night in. When I walked in the door, it was clear he had been hard at work while I was gone- the apartment was practically spotless! (He even went so far as to remove the table cloth, wash it, and put it all back!) I figured he must have been really bored while I was gone. I thanked him for all of his hard work and told him how exhausted I was. He countered by saying he really wanted to go get Mexican for dinner. I figured hey, he just cleaned the kitchen, now way we’re going to cook! Anyways, I took a nap and then rallied so he could get his Mexican food. Dinner was great; he was really relaxed and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. When we got home, I went to the bedroom and to unpack my bags from the trip. As I walked down the hallway back to the living room, I noticed the lights were dimmed and that there were candles lit everywhere. Granted, it’s not unusual for us to have a lot of candles lit around the apartment, we both love them, but with the lights down like that, I thought this could be it! I round the corner and realize he’s hanging out watching an Aziz Ansari special on Comedy Central. Well, so much for that, I thought. I got comfy on the couch and snuggle up with the puppy. A few minutes later he gets up and turns the TV off. He is standing in the middle of our living room and asks me to “come here”. As soon as I stand up and walk towards him, he gets down on one knee. This IS it! It was beautiful, sweet, and absolutely perfect. I started to cry a bit as he was asking me. I told him yes, absolutely yes and he slid the ring on my finger. As he did so, I started giggling and I couldn’t stop- I was so giddy! When I finally took a moment to check out the ring itself, the tears started up again. It is more than I ever imagined. The center stone is my late grandmother’s so that makes it extra special.
So what do you think?!
