Joey and I have been together for four years. We have literally been through it ALL together. I was born with a chronic lung disease, Cystic Fibrosis. Two years ago I found out that my lungs were failing and that I would die without a double lung transplant. I had to stop working, and literally put my life on hold. I started to wear oxygen at all times and even needed to be pushed around in a wheelchair. Joey did not leave my side once. He always made me smile and still made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world.
Last year in November I received my double lung transplant and I have been recovering wonderfully ever since. I returned back to work last month and life is almost back to normal!
My birthday was coming up and so was our 4 year anniversary. Joey said he wanted to spend a day with me to celebrate my birthday since it was so special, my first one in years that I’d be healthy and able to enjoy.
I woke up the morning of our date. I had absolutely no idea where I was going. He had my cousin in my living room with a gift bag. Inside the gift bag was a letter describing what he had planned for me. In the gift bag was drinks and snacks for the LIMO that was coming and a bag of make-up brushes (I have to be very careful of germs since my transplant).
A limo picked my cousin and I up at my house and brought us into the city where we met with a personal shopper! He told me to get a nice dress and a pair of nice shoes (Louboutin’s if I wanted!). I then had lunch with my cousin before the limo took me to the hotel. At the hotel I went to the salon where Joey scheduled me to have a hair cut, style, make-up done and mani/pedi! After this was done he met me and brought me up to our hotel room – which was a huge suite with two bathrooms, a kitchen and a piano in the living room!
The location also could not have been more perfect. It was a beautiful, sunny day in April – 86 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Flowers starting to bloom all around the park. It was gorgeous. He proposed in front of the fountain because of what the fountain stands for. It is a large angel sculpture looking down on the fountain with four little cherubs which represent health, purity, temperance and peace. He thought it was very appropriate considering all that I have been through in the last year!
I will never forget this day for the rest of my life. Every single thing was perfect – Joey planned everything to a “T”! I am going to marry my best friend. I am living and breathing with amazing new lungs and life seriously could not be any sweeter!
