- Wedding: December 2015
I’m so delighted to be finally engaged to the love of my life. He got down on one knee and proposed last Friday in our living room under candle light and had planned a whole weekend of celebrating for us in a beautiful Auckland hotel complete with couples massage and champagne. It was perfect!
As is this my first post here’s a little insight on us, we have been together 3 years in November, I’m 25 and he’s 26 and two years ago we moved together from Ireland to New Zealand on our own to try something a little different and get some work experience elsewhere. I knew we would eventually get married after 4 months into the relationship and he says he felt the same but we didn’t seriously talk about it until 2 years in.
Three months ago, out of the blue he took me to have a look at rings and we both fell in love with the dainty cushion, pave, halo look. We both thought 1 carat was the perfect size on my finger but the prices we’re crazy. He said he didn’t care and that he’d save as long as he needed to get me that ring but I was adament that it was way too much and that id much prefer a less expensive ring and that we focus on saving for our wedding and a deposit for a house. Thats when I discovered moissanite, FI wasn’t convinced at first but once he read up on it he was happier.
We asked around a few Auckland stores including Angela Daniels and Partridges for a quote on making the ring we wanted with a moissanite stone that we would provide but It being such an unknown stone here, most of the stores said it wouldn’t be worth our or their while (thinking the stone was worthless) or gave quotes double what we ended up paying. We eventually found a gorgeous antique jewelery store, Gem’s of Remuera that assured us they loved moissanite and had the perfect jewler to create exactly what we wanted. There, we were able to compare FB and unenhanced moissanite to comparable grade diamonds and we were blown away with its beauty.
I emailed them some sample rings of what we wanted and within a week they showed us a 2D and 3D computer generated photo of the ring with a quote well within our budget of 3-5000nzd. It was pretty perfect, the only suggestion I made was to have the band as thin as possible and to keep it low set to ensure a dainty look. They did just this but made sure the ring was strong enough to stand the test of time which obviously is massively important in an engagement ring. We went for 18 carat gold with a 1.1 FB moissanite with micro diamonds in the band and halo. My finger size is J1/2 or 5 US. It took them 3 weeks to make it (although FI led me to believe it would be ages so as to surprise me…he proposed the same day he picked it up).
Below are the design photos and the final ring, I was blown away when my FI opened the box, it’s more perfect than I could have imagined and sparkles like crazy! Im so delighted and excited to be entering this next chapter in our lives =) hope this helped anyone whose considering going custom or with moissy, if you have a custom design or a moissy please share, I can never get enough of ring photos!
