It was wonderful! While I was SO impatient, now that it happened, I feel like it was the perfect time.
Some of you may remember my fiance and I jokingly naming my e-ring Lionel, thus the reference. The original post is here.
FI (that's his official title now!) and I have been together 10 months... shorter than most, we realize. We knew we wanted to get married after 3 weeks. Since then, the wedding plans have evolved, so I have been a "waiting" member of this wonderful hive for months now, and definitely a "pre-E" planner. I was worried our proposal would not be as special because of this, but it was SO AMAZING! So to all of you waiting ladies -- it will feel exhilarating no matter how much planning you've done! The joy of becoming official was still the best high ever :)
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Here's how he did it!
So I knew he was coming into town this past Friday, but he told me his flight was at 8:30. I had already resigned myself to no proposal that weekend because it would be such a short trip, there wouldn't be a good time, especially since Saturday was my brother's birthday and FI wouldn't steal his thunder.
So my mom, my matron of honor and I were driving in the downtown area of our small town at around 5pm, and I saw a familiar looking guy standing outside an Italian restaurant on the street corner. I said, "Is that FI?" and they said, "Yes! Have fun!"
I hopped out and ran to him. At that point, I just thought he'd come in early to surprise me, and I was just so excited to see him. But then he said, "I've been waiting for you my whole life, and now that I've found you, I never want to let you go. So if you're ready, will you be my wife?" And he got down on one knee and gave me the most beautiful ring ever! He slid it on my finger as cars driving by honked and leaned out their window to shout congratulations. I felt like a star! It was so special.
My stepdad had been hiding taking pictures and they were perfect - they captured everything as it unfolded! Then after hugging everyone, we went into the restaurant where our table had a huge, gorgeous flower arrangement in our wedding colors! So thoughtful. We had a delicious Italian dinner (my favorite!) with a bottle of wine and it was so perfect, sweet and happy!
The best part was how he had planned it, so that we could have the whole weekend to celebrate, and that my matron of honor was there, since she lives out of town. I'm so glad I was patient (kind of) because it was wonderful.
My ring is exactly what I wanted, too. Something else to any brides on budgets - my center stone is .71 of a carat and looks HUGE to me! At first when we were shopping, I thought less than a carat would disappoint, but it is beautiful and everyone has remarked on its loveliness. So don't worry about that either :)
Here's a picture of the ring! Thanks for your support during my waiting period, friends!
