I can’t believe I’m saying it- I’M ENGAGED! 😀
For those of you who haven’t been on the waiting boards here’s the back story:
I’ve been with my girlfriend (Fiancee!) for two years. During the last 8 months we’ve had a lot of conversations about marriage and in March we decided it was time to start looking into and buying rings. We ended up buying antique rings from separate sellers on Etsy. Mine is an art deco piece from the late 20’s and here’s is a late 30’s piece. They’re both gorgeous and compliment each other in design. For six months now we’ve had our rings, but she was adamant about doing the actual proposing part.
We’ve been meaning to go to a beautiful flower garden just out of town for ages. Since it’s been something that we’ve been wanting to do for awhile I didn’t even get suspicious when she mentioned taking a Saturday and going. I definitely didn’t get suspicious the day before when she asked if it would be okay if we stayed at her mom’s that night since we’d be nearby. I’m so bad with directions that she managed to convince without question that her mom lived near to this flower garden. In actuality they’re almost 100 miles apart. The jokes on me, haha! What she didn’t think about is that it’s late October in Minnesota and any outdoor flowers have been dug up at this point. So she was definintely panicking when we arrived only to find dirt piles where there should have been flowers! Luckily the garden runs alongside the Mississippi River and it’s stunning right now with the changing leaves. She found a beautiful spot above the river and pulled the ring right out of her pocket. There’s no question what I said- it was a resounding yes!
I was still letting all of this catch up to me when I happened to mention how excited her mom would be. That’s right- I didn’t even stop to think that just maybe that was part of the ruse! We had a good laugh about that one. That’s when she told me that I had a long night ahead of me. She booked dinner at one of our favorite LGBT restaurants and a night at by far the fanciest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. It was an amazing night and I’m still walking on cloud nine. I’m happy to be able to share this with all of you bees!
What’s really funny is the first person we got to share our exciting news with was actually the couple that ended up coming up to the spot by the river ten minutes after she proposed for their own proposal.
I’m going to share the best photos I have for now. Here’s where she proposed, the bright sunlight on my camera phone washed out all the fall colors! 🙁
And here’s the best shot I’ve got of our rings:
