ok, he's not really my "childhood sweetheart" so to speak. but we've known each other for 23 years! we were classmates since 1st grade. we were in different circle of friends but both of us were friends. we went to different schools in highschool but we were each other's prom dates. we only became officially a couple in college.

fast forward, 9 years after, we're engaged! :)

he proposed last sunday. my cousin had a gift certificate for a 2 day stay at a resort. during our stay, i've been bumping into people i know. like people i went to school with, friends of my boyfriend, his sister's boyfriend. i found it weird but i didn't really suspect anything.

then on the last day (sunday) my cousin and i were having lunch at the hotel, there was music playing on the background but i couldn't recall the song at that time. i knew the sound but it was instrumental only so i couldn't remember what song it was. then all of a sudden a classmate from elementary came up to me and handed me a flower. just like that then she stepped aside. then my highschool friend came up to me and gave me another flower. then more and more people came up to me handing me flowers. friends from highschool, college. i knew somehow all these had something to do with my boyfriend because who else would give me flowers right? but i still had no idea what he was up to at that point. then his best buddy came up, then his sister...i was starting to get nervous at that point.

then i noticed that the music in background turned in to live guitar but it was the same song. but this time i finally recognized what song it was. i swear i was gonna have a cardiac arrest or something. at that moment i knew what was happening. i turned around to look at the small stage area about a table behind me and there he was whith his brother sitting behind him on the guitar. and on cue, just like in a movie, he sang the last chorus to the song (with a little tweaking):

i think it was after the first "marry me" he stood up and slowly walked towards me. so by the end of the song he was standing in front of me. he gave the most romantic spiel ever and went down on one knee and took out a box with the most precious ring and proposed! oh i was a mess but of course i said YES!

after i calmed down, i realized (and he further explained to me) that all those people who came up to me giving me the flowers were sort of a "timeline" of our relationship. from when we were friends in elementary to the present.

i found out later on that my cousin didn't really have a gift certificate for the hotel. it was all part of the plan alll along. they had to print out a fake gift certificate for me to see. the mom of the boyfriend of my boyfriend's sister had a 2 room discount for that weekend but won't be able to use it so she gave it to her son and her son gave it to my boyfriend's sister and then to my boyfriend. my boyfriend, his brother and sister, and his sister's boyfriend all stayed in one room, just a couple of rooms away from ours. my cousin had to keep her phone with her the entire time so she could text them where in the hotel we were so i wouldn't see them. but unfortunately i kept bumping into the people who were part of the plan. lucky for him, i thought it was all just all a weird coincidence.

we've been together for so long that you'd think it will be almost automatic that we'll get married but i still never expected this. i mean, we've talked about it but just loosely. no solid plans or anything.

we plan to marry next year, july 24, our 10th year anniversary as a couple. also, coincidentally, his favorite number is 24 and mine is 7. :)

i'm excited to plan for the wedding! :)

thank you! i was so touched by the effort. imagine having to track all those people and get them together in secret! and that timeline thing. i love it. i had always imained my versions of perfect proposals. they were never like this. this is THE perfect proposal for me. just suits us both as a couple.

thank you guys! even i still get the chills. this morning on our way to work, we were in the car and "marry me" played on shuffle and all of a sudden i started crying again! lol!

oh oh i forgot to add one detail. the flowers that were being handed to me, they had small notes tied to them. the notes were small memories we have. like the first note said "here, you can use my crayons. just don't break it especially the yellow one - it's the first thing you ever said to me. ever! and i broke your blue crayon. i'm sorry :(" and that note was written in blue crayon. i haven't gotten the chance to read them all until last night because i was still too overwhelmed with everything. the notes were so cute! i can't believe he remembered all those things!

thank you again everyone for the greetings. it's been almost a week and i'm still on cloud nine. though i browsed the planning guides on the knot yesterday and yikes! planning a wedding is a lot of work! the fiancee and i are gonna have a little date night this weekend and hopefully we can start talking about what the plans are. i'm excited! and just a teensy bit nervous. :)
