I actually have an Ex that I am still friendly with and he just recently got married, and planned it much like you described above. His wife was here on a visa and they also had travel issues. They got married in his home town and her parents and some family in the states were able to attend and then they plan on having a renewal in her home country after the visa issues are resolved. I think what you have planned is a great idea.

I've lived in Indiana my whole life; he's from Costa Rica. We're trying to plan a wedding that involves both sides of our family (because, let's face it, only our immediate families will be willing to pay to travel out of country for our wedding).
I should add that he's still here on a student visa, which expires in December, so we also have residency issues to contend with.
We're thinking of having our actual wedding here, where we both live, in September (that part is pretty much settled), then some sort of vow renewal ceremony in Costa Rica later on, maybe this coming winter. Thoughts? Inspiration?
