It’s called PRK, similiar to LASIK, but the flap, well the cut it off and it grows off….scared, nervous, anxious.
I have such bad vision, the big “E” on the eye sight poster, well without my glasses I can’t see it….it’s that bad of vision…so I’ve been waiting for the surgery, but hoping not to be that 1%….

I’m nervous for you too! I want to get lasik but my eyes keep changing so I have to wait till it levels out or it won’t be worth the money.
Good luck and sending good thoughts your way.

I had Lasik in September and I LOVE IT! I was quick and easy – I’m not sure how PRK compares as far as recovery is concerned but I would think it is similar, just might take longer.
Good luck! 🙂

They put a temporary contact in my eye for 7 days, then it’s more pain….they say kinda like sand in the eye, total recovery a minimum of 6 weeks for the eye surface to grow back and 3 months for the vision to settle….

Oh wow, peaches, let us know how it goes. I’m really hoping to get some kind of eye surgery down the road, so I jumped on this post when I saw the title. I know the process will be tough, but what an exciting thing to do! Sending you lots of happy, healing thoughts!

I hope that it goes well. I’m sure that you have researched and chosen the best doctor for you so it will be fine. They have had a lot of practice with those surgeries and it’s getting better all the time. You’ll be in my thoughts!

I had LASIK 2 months ago, and it’s the best thing I ever did! My eyesight was really bad as well couldn’t see anything without glasses or contacts, and now I still can’t believe how perfect it is.
I know it’s a bit of a scary process, I was nervous too, but just think of the difference it will make to your life…. good luck for tomorrow!

The one thing for me….after having glasses for over 10 years, it’s part of who I am….to think, I can’t change “personalities” like I used to be (from the smart sophisticated look w/ glasses or the younger look without)
But when I open my eyes in the morning I don’t have to reach for the glasses to see, or I don’t have to worry about cleaning the lenses when it’s dusty out or raining. I’m just anxious. But it’ll be good. THanks for the support.

Good luck! Lasik has been something that I have been thinking about doing for a while. I just have to wait until I am on a better (red: not a student) health insurance plan) Let us know how it goes!!

I had Lasik when I was 17, a whopping fourteen years ago. My vision is still 20/20, and other than really mild dry eye (I have to put drops in when I wake up each morning), I’ve suffered zero side effects. The immediate recovery was definitely uncomfortable, so make sure your doctor has a plan to help you handle that, but after a day or two, my eyes felt fine.

Peaches! how did it go? I was in the same boat you were…a bit worse…couldn’t see the E on the board even if it was two feet away from me! I wore glasses/contacts for 15 years before that so it was such a relief not to reach for glasses or contacts or freak out if i couldn’t find either one.
be sure to wear sunglasses for a few weeks whenever you go out in the daytime!
