@oxstardust421xo:  What is your budget like? Do you have an idea of the type of dress you’d like? Short? Long? Fancy? Casual?

Igigi has nice plus size dress options, or maybe something from Nordstrom? If you are open to non-white dress options, you may be able to find something cute at a discount store. I usually have good luck with Marshalls and TJ Maxx for dresses.

I’d try to have fun with it…. since you’ll still get to wear the big white dress later you can really wear whatever you like! Go shopping at stores that you normally like and see if anything just jumps out at you!

I did something similar.

I wore a white lace fit and flare for our City Hall ceremony….and really great shoes 🙂 Pretty much anything goes at City Hall – some people were wearing full on ballgowns, others got married in jeans and a t.

I think your first decisions should be (a) if you’re going to buy something new (sounds like yes) and, if so, do you want to get something for this one occasion, or something you can wear a lot in the future, since you’re (presumably) going to wear a weddng gown in September.  You mght want to use it as an opportunity to get a new “best dress.”

@oxstardust421xo:  Is it cold weather in New Hampshire? I’d do something with a (faux) fur shrug or jacket or something. It would be super pretty and play up the winter wedding vibe. Kate Middleton wore a really nice little jacket, for example.

I agree with PPs that since you are still having your September wedding that you can use this opportunity to literally wear whatever you want. Is there a dress that you’ve seen in the past and loved, but didn’t have anywhere to wear it? I wouldn’t necessarily buy anything expensive for this if I were you, and I’d make sure to buy it in store rather than online because things can be unpredictable with ordering and shipping especially if there is a problem with size or something upon arrival. Have you tried looking for something at Ann Taylor, White House Black Market, etc?

I don’t know what your personal style is like, if it were me I would get one of these cute retro dresses from unique vintage:

I bought a bathing suit there last summer and it is the most flattering thing. I plan on buying more there for the honeymoon. 🙂

@oxstardust421xo:  Have you checked out igigi.com? Also mybridaldress.com has lots of short plus sized dresses. And sonsi.com too.
