I'm having difficulty deciding on a complimentary color! My color is dark purple and I was thinking either mauve or lilac...or yellow. Any other suggestions?

Purple and yellow are a nice combo with a *pop*, as are various shades of purple/moss green/gold. Check out pics from the recent wedding I planned with this color scheme:

Wow, that wedding looked amazing. I like the moss color!

BTW what color is the lighting? It looks hot pink? or is it purple?

I'm doing mauve-y purple, off-white/ivory, and light gold.  With some pops of fuschia (stargazer lillies).

I think yellow would really pop with dark purple!  Or even a greenish color (think of the top on an eggplant).  What about some gold accents?

Dunno if it would help b/c I'm using a lighter purple, but here's my inspiration board:

jbbaby - the lighting is actually supposed to be purple, but reflecting off the draping on the ceiling, it looks rather fuschia!

I'm also using a dark purple/plum color. I Finally decided on dark purple, blush/pale pink, ivory, green and silver.

I used some of Mrs. Peacocks photos as inspiration.

I think yellow and bits of light grey would look fabulous.

We're doing dark purple, lavender, lime green with touches of light gray and pale pink. Purples look great with greens and pinks.

I second Miss Bruschetta's idea! Purples and oranges are so chic.

teeleaf22...How do I find Mrs. Peacock's photos??

My wedding is in the middle of March so I can either make it wintery or springy! I like the dark purple, lilac, and touch of green idea...Is that wintery or springy??

The technical complimentary color of purple is yellow. But you could also go with a tertiary color scheme and do purple, orange,  and green.  A Pale grey with dark purple could also look fabulous!

I'm thinking of gray, with bits of black & white. I guess I love purple to a fault, I don't want to include other colors LOL

I'm thinking about doing a plum color with raspberry, gold, and silver accents.  I'm also going to incorporate moss in my centerpieces.

We had a dark purple and orange wedding in May.  It was gorgeous!

My colors are going to be purple (plum), olive green, and chocolate brown with gold accents.  It is in the winter so I wanted rich colors.  Also, I LOVE the purple and orange.  very unique, it would be great for a fall wedding.  Wow, I am in love with that combo.

Dark purple will look good with either lighter shades of purple or pink, dark red or blue, and yellow. =) Basically, you want to look for either colours similar to purple, or colours opposite purple. If you're looking at doing three or more colours, I would suggest either choosing one colour close to purple (maybe a lilac) and one colour opposite it (yellow) if you want drama/pop, or choosing two colours closer to it if you want a more subdued, elegant feel.

http://www.brides.com actually has a colour wheel feature that you can select a main colour with (dark purple) and play around with different colour combos. =) It's really fun.

I live in Southern California myself and whenever I think of purple and yellow, I think of the Lakers' colors.

Weebs, you are totally right...purple and yellow do look Laker-ish!!! I don't want my wedding to be a post season celebration..Although my family would love it!! haha
