- Wedding: January 2013
I can’t believe it! After a year of planning it’s finally happened!! I feel so blessed.
DH (!!!!!!) is still sleeping so I thought I’d make a quick post about the big day!
Our ceremony was definitely the highlight of the day, and oddly it was what I was most worried about! I had people coming up to all night telling me and DH that it was the best ceremony they’d been to, so I feel very honored. DH’s vows were amazing, our bridal party was amazing… ah! perfect!
Then we went to the reception and it looked gorgeous thanks to 10+ hours of decorating the day before, the food (which my mom and her friends cooked, something that had worried me a little since most people advise against not using a caterer) was met with rave reviews and tasted freakin’ amazing.. ah!
I had to talk about all the amazing parts of the wedding, even though there were a billion more, because sadly, there were a few major (for me at the time!) disappointments and I don’t want to seem like I’m disappointed with the wedding (I’m definitely not!):
1. out of almost 90 people who rsvp’d, barely 50 showed up due to the fact that they were all vikings and packers fans and there was a game on (seriously? bah!) and a lot of people left early to watch the game, too.
2. no one danced. like, at all. the busiest the dance floor got was the last song, when 6 couples joined us on the dancefloor. major bummer.
3. we ended the wedding an hour early!! so many people had already left, DH and I were exhausted, we just couldn’t stand up anymore and cut the event short.
4. directly related to, and probably the reason for, no one dancing was that OUR DJ SUCKED. He messed up the entrance and first dance so badly that I mean mugged during most of the first dance because I was so upset LOL (he played the wrong music/started it too late/kept the entrance song playing after we got on the dance floor so we had to awkwardly slow dance to “Forever” by Chris Brown until our real first dance song “Everything” by Michael Buble started playing… ugh). After that he just couldn’t read the room and played bad music (that I hadn’t requested!!!) for the crowd there so no one danced. ugh.
It feels so good to get those bad ones off my chest! I’ve got to say, they really brought me down during the reception, something I regret a lot. But as soon as DH and I left (and I couldn’t hear the DJ anymore! LOL) I felt 1000x better and realized that the day was AMAZING.
Who cares if the DJ sucked and no one danced? I heard from almost all my guests that they loved the food/decorations/ceremony/photobooth/us, so I know they had a good time. And we had a good time! And I married my freakin’ best friend, so I am the happiest damn bride ever!
So to all ladies still planning their wedding: If something goes wrong, let it roll! Don’t dwell on it because it honestly doesn’t matter!
Not many guest pictures yet, but here’s one of DH and his GM that our amazing photographer (and friend!) posted on instagram for a laugh:
Yup. We’re definitely Alaskan. LOL. (Photo by Cat Dossett at I Take Photos)
