Last night I was complaining about my crazy, poofy, frizzy hair (a usual occurence in our household) when all of a sudden a light bulb when on in my FI's head. This is the conversation that followed:

FI: "OMG, are you going to straighten your hair for our photos on Sunday?"

    Me: *blank stare* "Uhhhh yea!"

FI: "I'm not taking pictures with you then."

    Me: "What???"

FI: "I don't like the way your hair looks when it's straightened. I like it natural. I'm not taking pictures with you if you wear your hair like that."

What would you do ladies? Wear your hair the way you know will look good in photos? Or have crazy frizz head because that's what your FI likes?

@TinyTina: I couldnt help but laugh ...I would tell my FI/SO to build a bridge and get over it - do your hair how you like :)

Can you compromise? My hair used to (I have no idea why it changed) by wavy and I could make pretty wavy hairstyles or straighten it. Can you make a pretty wavy hairstyle? Or straight with more volume? Or curl it?

I'd wear my hair the way I like it and know it will look good. If I wasn't happy with my hair or how I looked I think that would show in pictures. How often do you straighten your hair? What doesn't he like about it?

Or maybe this is actually about something else other than your hair.

@CanadianMermaid: It was such a random convo, I was laughing the whole time. I couldn't believe how serious he was about how he wanted my hair!

@kingytobe: I can try, but I'm really bad at styling my hair. I usually either attack it with a hair straightener or wear it in a ponytail. Maybe I will do some experimenting after work tonight...

This! I love the way my hair looks when it's straightened and I think I'd be nervous/constantly playing with it if I did it any other way. I'd say I straighten my hair once or twice a week and always for special occasions (a nice dinner, a wedding, etc). He doesn't like the straight look, he likes the wavy, natural look that to me looks like a pile of frizz. :-P

Ahh guys are so crazy! Can we see pics of your hair normal and straightened? Maybe it looks good normal but you are just self conscious??

You may think it looks bad but your SO loves everything about you. He may want you to look the way you do all the time for the pics because he loves seeing you like that. Not all done up trying to conform to the idea of what looks good. Just do you. He loves you.

My FI feels the same way, he preferes me in my baggy jeans a t-shirt and my hair all in a mess thrown back in a pony tail. He has expressed his feelings about me wearing lots of makeup on the big day and I have told him I wont be. I never wear makeup I find it uncomfortable. The most Ill be wearing is eye shadow and mascara.

However, you also have to feel comfortable. So if you would feel better having your hair straightened then let him know that and he will understand.

Tip for frizzy hair, as I have major frizz, frizzease is awesome.

    :)

@PitBulLover: I could post some pics when I get home... Unfortunately I don't have access to any photos at work. The only ones I've posted on WB are me with straight hair, so here's one: I'm not taking pictures with you if you wear your hair like that. : wedding Picture 011

@TinyTina: I like your hair straight! But now Im really curious to see it natural. I will be patient and wait until later! :-)

Maybe you could compromise by going to a stylist that day and having her do your hair so that it is wavy/curly but not frizzy?

you can use your staightener to curl your hair too (youtube it if you're not familiar)... what if you do that? then you'd be able to defrizz for you, but have it not be "straight" for him. (oh and your FH looks a lot like my brother... weird!)

Haha, it is quite funny that he feels so intense about it. I think your hair looks beautiful straight! My FI also likes my hair curly but I prefer it straight so that is how I wear it all the time. Although he likes it curly, he is fine with me wearing my hair which ever way I like. Perhaps your FI just wants things to be all natural. You should post a pic of your hair frizzy.

Ok, I'm only half kidding. But that's what it looks like if I put no effort in at all. This is what it normally looks like:

I'd see if I could do big, wavy curls if I was you. Your hair doesn't look all that frizzy to me, and it looks like it would hold those curls well. Also, that way it is sort of the way your hair "naturally" is. :)

What if you did some wavy curls with a curling iron? You have long gorgeous hair and I think you would look great with a style like that. Lol because I am a tomboy and have no idea how to curl my hair. Haha I can't believe I'm admitting this. A PP mentioned that I can curl my hair with my straightener, but with only a few days before the photos I'm nervous about experimenting with my hair. :D I can give it a shot though.

@TinyTina: I like using my curling iron but do you have any friends who could curl your hair for you? Otherwise, my best advice is to not leave your hair on the curling iron for too long or the curl will be too tight. Curl towards your face and then choose the next section of hair and curl away from your face. Always alternate. Also, I love to curl my hair and then sleep on it and touch it up a little the next day. That way it loosens and falls a little but still has good body.

LOL.  That is funny that he is so opinionated about your hair.  Mine is like 10x worse frizz than that.. i *have* to straighten it everyday.  Even the bus driver made fun of my hair before I discovered a flat iron.  I think I'd have to say sorry FI, but I *have* to straighten my hair cause I just wouldn't feel comfortable with it if I didnt think it looked good.  I dont think your frizz is bad, it could work depending on the type of shoot you wanted.

i'm tellin' you - break out that straightener and twirl it around while you pull your hair through and you'll have curls! :D you still have plenty of time to experiment!

I have the opposite issue!  My FI loves straight hair is naturally wavy and frizzy (very "mom" style).  He never says it looks bad when I don't use the flat iron, but he always comments on my hair when I do.  It's good that he loves the way you look without any extra help : ]

Do you have a talented friend who could come over and help you curl your hair? Or perhaps go to a salon and get them to do it if thats affordable to you?

Hahahahah ok. So I took your advice and locked myself in the bathroom with my curling iron (had to dust that bad boy off, haven't used it in forever!) and my hair straightener.

Oh my word what a disaster. I had pieces that curled perfectly, then other that just laid flat. Some were sticking out of my head. Oh and the whole thing was frizzy. I looked insane. It was worse than bedhead. Hahahaha. I love my FI and I appreciate that he likes my natural, but it's impossible to tame and just not worth the effort. I know I will only feel comfortable if I straighten it.

    Sorry FI!!

Thanks for all the advice ladies, it was really was helpful... I am just completely useless when it comes to styling my hair!
