Yesterday I had a timeline talk with my SO. Lately things have been a little hard (he has to move to another city without me for grad school, he didn’t get the funding he wanted…general stress and pessimism) so we’ve gone to counselling a couple of times, and that helped us get into the frame of mind where we could finally constructively address our plans for the future, without me getting upset or both of us awkwardly skirting around the specifics of “being together.”
So we’ve decided we’re going to get engaged next spring! This will be right before I finish my current degree and move to be with him again. At first he was all like, “we’ll evaluate getting engaged then,” but I put my foot down and told him that, while I was definitely planning on moving for him (no ultimatums for me) I most certainly wanted to be engaged befor it happened. So it’s going to happen! In less then a year! Even knowing that feels amazing at this point, and will give me something to look forward to throughout this year of long distance.
So, at this point I’m looking for suggetsions for coping with the LDR – we’ve lived together for two and a half years, been together for nearly four, so it will be hard. Plus, we SUCK at talking on the phone.
