So, I had an injury to both ankles and because I work on my feet all day, I applied for a leave of absence (after my boss & HR encouraged me to). I got approved for a FMLA leave (I’m in California btw) and applied for disability, as my case manager told me to do. I needed an MRI to determine what was actually wrong with my ankles, but a doctor at urgent care, my GP, and an orthopedist (who I am now dealing with) all encouraged me to rest, elevate my feet, gave me painkillers, and put me in an air cast. I was told that if the aircast did not work then I might have to be in a wheelchair until I heal.
Anyways, now the doctor’s office is telling me that the doctor will not ok my disability or leave until he gets the test results and his nurse is saying there are no notes saying I cannot work! I feel like an idiot, but I guess after having 3 doctors telling me to stay off my feet and keep them elevated and not being able to walk (literally going down the stairs on my butt), that I should not be working because I physically would not be able to. Does the doctor need to ok my leave of absence? Or does he just ok/not ok disability? Honestly, at this point, I just want to make sure my leave gets ok’d so I can return to work without reperccusions.
I spoke with my case manager who said that there is no problem and she has no idea what the doctor’s office is talking about. I got a second call from the doctor’s nurse saying that he won’t ok anything until he gets the test results. I just left my case manager a voicemail to get some answers but if anyone has any input, that would be awesome!!!
Thanks ladies! Sorry it was so long 🙁
