That really sucks 🙁 We’ve had similar things happen when we’ve tried to buy things on craigslist. Once they called us when we were on our way to get the item that they just sold it. The most annoying thing about it was we could have come earlier, but they told us to come at a specific time, and they still sold it on us. Some people are just annoying.

This is the one thing I hate about CL.  But having been on the flip side, waiting around all day for someone that promises they really want whatever I’m selling, and they never show… I kind of understand it.  But seriously it is a pain when you make all those plans and you realllllly do want it.

Ehh, I dunno. Whenever DH and I sell something on Craigslist, we do it 100% first come first served. As in, the first person to show up with the money gets the item. 90% of the time someone says they’ll come ‘tomorrow’ to pick up whatever it is, they end up flaking out and meanwhile we’ve said no to people who would actually have followed through. So I can understand why the seller couldn’t wait for you.

It does suck, though. There’s just no winning. We got flaked out on several times while trying to sell our couch, so I can assure you, it’s just as annoying from the other side! Maybe the stars will align and you can get the furniture somewhere else, though!

It sucks but what if she had held it for you and you didn’t show up?

At least she called you before you made the trip.

When I’m on CL I pretty much sell it to whomever is going to be there first with cash in hand…too many people say they want it then don’t follow through.

This just happened to us yesterday when DH went to buy some tools. He told the guy he pretty much would want whatever he was selling but when we got their he had just sold the table saw. DH chalked it up. We weren’t angry. The guy just sold it to whoever got there first.

I agree.

That sucks, but is pretty normal from Craigslist.  She should have gotten in touch with you first.  Unfortunately people on Craigslist (both sellers and potential buyers) can be really flaky, and it just comes with the territory.

This would have pissed me off! I had someone do this to me over a house I wanted to rent for a weekend last summer (we had a wedidng to go to in a small town). He was like sorry first come first serve. I was like I WAS the first! GAH! We ended up staying in a cheap motel LOL

I understand your frustration, but as someone who has sold items on Craigslist, it was so frustrating because people would call, text, and email to say they were coming and never show. And you’re sitting with a bedroom set three days before you’re supposed to be moving out of your apartment with no room on the truck and no Plan B!

Ordinarily, I would say she was completely wrong, but in this case, I understand. If you hadn’t shown, which many people don’t, then she could have been SOL!

It’s frustrating, but as someone who has posted on CL and had someone say hold it for us, and then never show, I get why they sold it to the first person who actually showed up.
