I slowly have been getting weaned off of my gel nails!  My manicurist worked with me really hard and voila!

They are off!  It's my OWN NAILS now and they are lookin' good!  Nice medium length and they're rocking a french manicure right now!

I am going to keep up having manicures b/c it keeps me from going back to the reason I got fake nails so long ago in the first place...i bit my nails!

That is a serious accomplishment. I love having fake nails but it's gotten so expensive. I really can't afford another 20-30 bucks a month on nails! I had grown mine all out, even and pretty. I just got a manicure yesterday. Then tonight I decided to strip, sand, prime and spray paint a bicycle! Manicure: FAIL.

Just a tip also, Sally Hansen makes this stuff called "Hard as Wraps" that is great for keeping your natural nails strong.

Congrats! It's a pain in the butt to do but it's well worth it to have healthy, natural nails!

I had gel nails for a little bit .. my nails just wouldn't grow out and I realized that I hated the gel nails. What a pain.

So after a while, I've finally grown mine out too! It was hard!!

Mine are usually thin but it is probably from a combo of super amounts of hand washing (courtesy of being in the medical field) and having the gels for so long.

I just know if I keep them pretty I won't be tempted to ever bite them again.  Damn I hope I can keep this up!

I actually had my patient today tell me that I had nice hands and that my nails looked so pretty!

He he.  T has no idea I've done this!  But he may not even know!  Mine are a good medium length and its in a french (I always have had a french pretty much btw..I'm a classic kinda chickiepoo!)

Yay! I had acrylics once and they made my nails so weak and brittle so congrats on going back to real I know what a journey it can be!

Yay, Bellenga!! I was going back and forth on whether to get acrylic nails for the wedding but I love my natural nails. My only problem is that they are never the same height at the same time but on the other hand, I have not had acrylic nails in the longest time so my natural nails are pretty healthy right now. As long as I can keep these nails at a decent length for the next 15 days, I am staying natural.

Good for you, Belle.  I know my mom has acrylics and can't imagine getting rid of them because her nails are so weak.  I usually have the opposite problem, my nails grow so quickly that I'm always having to file them.

I used to get manicures once a week but let me tell you how quickly that adds up haha! I try to do them myself most of the time now. I've never had gel nails or arcylics but I think they look great!

Congrats!  My nails have improved a bunch since I started taking bioting months ago to help grow my hair for the wedding.

I know this is a silly thread ya'll, but thanks for being supportive!

Bru, I might try Biotin also!  My hair grows like grass on a vacant lot though, but the nails may need a bit of help.

So far they seem to be bouncing back rather well!

I love WB b/c it's a place I can actually tell people about stuff like this and have them understand!

It's not everywhere you know that you can brag about your nails finally being normal.  Friendliest place here ever!!!

Biotin is the Sh*t, Ladies!! :) I take it now and my hair and nails are much stronger then what they were a year ago.

Awesome!  I have just recently gotten over biting as well.  My encouragement for keeping them nice and long is two fold -- my FI loves them long (but not creep long!) and since I am still newly engaged people keep grabbing my hand to look at it!

Congrats! I wish I could do it. I have a horrible habit of biting my nails. HORRIBLE. It only gets worse under stress and with a little over a month to go, I don't really see it happening for me.

I used to have acrylics but I got really sick of the up-keep and maintenance (not to mention cost) associated with them.  But once I finally made the decision to grow them out and remove them, my nails were back to their old, brittle, pealing, thin ones I had always had.  AND I missed the look of my acrylics...

    ENTER: Broadway nails.

I know, it sounds cheesy in 2009 to wear temporary glue-on nails - but they have changed my life!!  They are strong, secure and easy to apply (also easy to remove).  The absolute best part about them is that I can go about my low maintenance life with my own nails and then when a special event or time comes up that I want to look a bit more polished, I just buy a box ($5) and pop them on (no more than 10 minutes to apply)!  Then when I'm done, I pop them off (easily) and go about my life :)  No fuss.  My friend turned me on to these and I have turned SEVERAL of my friends on to them too.  The hubs used to tease me about them until he realized how many compliments I receive when I wear them...I wore them to my own wedding and my hand shots look GREAT!  Just wanted to pass this great find along to my fellow bees :)
