I know how you feel! I used to HATE going to Lowes/Home Depot, and now FI and I love to go and dream about all the home renovation projects we'll do some day! (you know, when we actually have a house)
"Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time."
Know what movie that is from? :) And that's me now, in a nutshell. I enjoy home stores, and Home Depot... FI realllly likes Home Depot.
PS: Congrats on the house!!
Totally. I think it comes with the whole being done with school and starting to make money and build a life for yourself. I certainly never cared that much about stuff you are saying in my early twenties, but now I'm all about home stuff!
Congrats on the new house and furniture, btw!
I feel you on this! My man and I closed on our house in June. My "problem" is that I always used to blame my mother for my missing items be it socks, my keys, my purse, cell phone, anything.... turns out my mom isn't some awful gnome that wanders around the house hiding things to confuse me and make me miserable... I just LOSE STUFF like its my job!!!
Besides that... my FMIL completely outdid herself and bought us every little knick knack and doo dad possible for a kitchen and I swore up and down that I would never use half the stuff... Well, let me tell you... I used every single peice of machinery and every little spoon and crock and everything at the housewarming party 3 weeks after we moved in. Yes, I am insanely surprised about my "domestic-ness" and I do love love love it. And it never ceases to amaze me how much everyone notices. I got yelled at by college friends for taking pictures in front of my christmas tree... haha
@blueshoes- totally haha! we say that all the time. FI realized it first. On date night we went to Chilis then we went to Home Depot to look at ceiling fans and tile. He was like "wow... you know that we're your parents right? its really weird that i'm actually enjoying myself!"
@tulip- thanks!
I seriously cannot drag FH out of the store when we are in the home section.. He loves a DIY handyman challange, new decor, Paint. I never thought I would be like that or least alone him, but most saturdays we trundle down to housing store and least go for a browse.
were renting at the moment so we cant paint or do anything really handy, but we are excellent at moving furniture around.
I dont mind.. I like things fresh!
Sounds like fun, to me! :)
I'll become my mother when I start to like gardening. If ever.
Yup, I'm suprised at how domesticated I am. I thought I would be horrible at it. I'm a good cook... ok well, recipee follower.
haha and yes, sometimes I have turned into my mom. But only moments here and there.
I was totally like that once!
I'm waiting to start "nesting" officially. My DH has told me that he'll know when it happens but he says it hasn't yet. I'm wondering how he'll be able to stand a MORE neurotic me!
We bought our first home last June, and we LOVE doing house stuff together. Think of it as a way to extend the excitement of wedding planning, forever!
YES. I make DH's lunches. I used to laugh at women who did that! But I like making sure he's going to get a healthy lunch during the day and really if I'm making my own it's only an extra minute or two to do his as well (and if I'm not making my own, he doesn't get one either unless there's leftovers from dinner, so I guess it's ok :)). And yes we practically live at DIY hardware stores :) (Bunnings in particular but only the Aussies will know what I mean by that!) It's so much fun creating a home together.
I SO know how you feel. I'm looking at houses now and I have even went into Home Depot. I HATED that place when my parents made me go. It was SO boring! Now, I'm just dreaming about what I can do when I find The One (house), floors are on my big radar now!LOL
Like you, I am becoming my mother. We even had a phone call about floors the other day.LOL
OMG yes...we moved around every 4 yrs when i grew up and it was to different countries and we would always have to pick out new furniture paint colors etc. I would almost cry when my parents made me go pick out furniture....i would rather bang my head against the wall for an hour or 2. but now that I have my own house...I go to Lowes almost every weekend have picked out all my paint colors and have painted 3 of the rooms already and am constantly looking for couches for the living room...and I LOVE IT. its MY house and i get to do whatever I want to it! its such an amazing feeling and I kind of feel bad for being such a brat when I was younger because my parents love to go look for furniture for my new house with me now...how things have changed! so yes...im slowly becoming my mother in this aspect of life...and i guess im OK with it too!
ps-congrats on the house! wasnt closing crazy?!??! so many papers to sign!
i know the feeling! I love wandering around Home Depot thinking about how we're going to do our house when we finally decide on one. I guess cuz its actually going to be our house

So, FI and I closed on our first house yesterday--- WOOHOO!! And all this house stuff is bring out a WEIRD side in me. Our new dining room table and bedroom set was delivered today, but I couldn't be there because of work so FI met the delivery and sent me picture texts. I was so excited about that damn table I seriously considered blowing off work to go see it. Even though i was swamped. Even though I'm going to be there tomorrow at 9am. Even though I picked it out in the store myself just a month ago. Even though it's just a table!!
I used to whine and complain when my parents would drag me to lowes. My fiance have been to lowes and/or home depot at least once every weekend this month-- and I liked it! I picked out paint colors. I actually took time to think about what color hand soap I bought for each bathroom. I considered getting placemats for goodness sake!
Folks, I have become my mother. And the weird thing is... I'm not even upset about it haha. Anyone else surprise themselves with just how domestic they really are?
