Hm.

Dont wastetour energy worrying, just chat with them.  If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t and you’ll find a dress that does.

I would show them the dress/price and ask them if it is too much for them. They also need to be realistic about what they will spend on a dress. How much are they?

You could pay for the dress as a bridesmaid gift?

I’m having that same sort of guilt over burdening the bridesmaids. I’ve told them to pick out their own dresses and given basic guidelines on what they should look like. Then I gave them a bunch of suggestions with a range of prices.

Then again, we’re going for a pretty eclectic look to the whole wedding.

$60 for a dress is EXTREMELY reasonable. I wouldn’t be worried if I were you.

$60 sounds a fantastic price. Honestly, if they argue over that I’d be a little annoyed. If one of them is seriously broke, you could offer to split the cost with that particular BM or offer to pay the extra $10 for each of them so they only pay $50. Honestly though, they shouldn’t complain at that price!

I think $60 for a dress is super reasonable!  So is $25 for makeup.. that’s pretty crazy– wish I had a MUA with those rates!  :o)

Whilst I think $60 is reasonable for a dress I think it is kind of unreasonable for a theme dress that they will realistically never wear again. I personally think it is also unreasonable to expect them to pay for professional make up fro your day. If they want to great but it shoudl be an option not a requirement!

I was so afraid of ever coming across as bossy or demanding.  My girls chose their own dresses from a selection of like 15.

I just sent them a facebook message telling them we could all go to DB together or I could go with them in groups or whatever (busy schedules and people live all over).  I told them I needed them to order by such and such so that we could assure that the style or color did not get discontinued.

A week before the “due date” I sent a friendly reminder to all girls (not only the 2 who hadn’t gone yet) just to remind them the last day to order was such and such and then I thanked all of them for being a part of my day.

I think making it positive and not requiring everyone to go at one time or to even have me there and trying to make it convenient and easy was appreciated.

$60 is cheap! I was going to say if it was over $100, consult their budget.

Tell them that to ensure it is sent here on time it must be ordered by (August 25th… choose a date) so that they can be sent on time and tailored if necessary.

A little fib doesn’t always hurt.

ALSO… my girls are wearing $175 dresses. I paid for the dresses, but they are paying for the alterations, which are bout $50. My sister wants to shorten the dress and wear it again (her idea, not mine). My other bridesmaid I doubt will wear it again. Frankly, when I asked them to be bridesmaids, I expected a cost, and I don’t think $50 is asking too much since I am getting their makeup done and they can wear their own shoes, do whatever with their hair, etc.

@achele:  I hear ya! It scares me when no personality shines through. (says the girl wearing cowboy boots under her dress and changing into shoes with giant flowers after) 😛

Try http://www.unique-vintage.com

My wedding dress is from there. Only $110. The wiggle dresses are cheaper, they have two nice B&W ones for about $50.
