Ok - this is a stretch - but I'm in a bad mood today to begin with and this bugs me.  Showed my dress to a friend and she said it was pretty.  That's it, I know.  Why rant, right?

But I've gotten pretty all my life.  I'd like to be gorgeous, glamourous...any nice word starting with g apparently LOL.

I also hate the word "cute."  Bunnies are cute.  Miniature models of things are cute.  but I really don't want to be "cute" on my wedding day (or any day for that matter).

LOL I don't know how far complaining about being called pretty your whole life is going to get you here! But I do get what you're saying...you are super excited about the dress/wedding and you want everyone else to be just as excited. Maybe those "g" words just aren't in your friend's vocabulary. I for one, don't think I've ever used the word glamorous out loud. HAHA I'm with you on the cute thing though. I really do hate that! Smile

LOL!! People always call me cute which I thought would stop once I hit my 30s, but still hasn't. And you're right, I always want to say I'm an adult, not a bunny! So I picked a dress that shows off all my curves that can't be described as "cute" in any way possible.

I say "cute" for almost everything.  Boys are cute, dresses are cute, shoes are cute, my photographer is super-cute ;o)  I think pretty is a definite compliment...I keep hearing classy, classic, pretty, unique re: my dress and I like to take that as a compliment :o)

I overuse the word pretty sometimes too. I wouldnt take it as a bad sign, she probably just really thought it was pretty and couldnt come up with another word.

:) Ha ohhh don't take it personally.

My coworker said my engagment ring is "cute" and I just laughed and didn't say anything..."cute" is a word I would never use to describe someone's e-ring let alone someone's wedding dress like in your case!

I understand where you're coming from! Every dress I showed my friend that I liked/loved, her reply was always that's pretty. So I in turn told her send me pics of dresses that she thinks were great. She did and it just turns out that we have completely different taste. I wouldn't take it personally even though that may be hard to do. All that matters is wether or not you love the dress! I'm sure you'll look fabulous:)

My Mom actually told me when I first got engaged, that when she got married she was between two dresses. THe one I think she liked a little bit more had some flower details on it. A few people in the store said she looked cute in it. Like some of you had said, she didn't want to look cute on her wedding day, so she went with the other dress!! I can totally understand those feelings!

totally know what you're saying.  I've also been pretty, cute and sexy most of my life.  I'm just dying for someone to say that I'm beautiful or gorgeous.  But back to the dress.  Honestly, don't take it the wrong way but maybe your friend didn't really like the dress but not to hurt your feelings she just said it was pretty and left it at that.  If i'm not crazy about something but know that the person's feelings would be hurt if i'm brutally honest, I just say it's "pretty" "nice" or "cute".  it sort of shows my unenthusiasm for whatever it is without being blunt.

When I saw this topic I immediately thought "ugh, I hate the word cute". I hate when people respond to our save the dates as "cute" or flowers as "cute". No. That makes me not want to go with that idea!

Yea I'd be none too happy being called "unusual".

What I absolutely detest is this one I get alot:  "Wow you look so good to be 40".

The whole "to be x years" thing bugs the heck outta me!

I should wear a shirt around that says "I'm 40..get over it..you'll be there too someday."

@ bellenga - lol, I agree, that "to be" silliness is like an anti-compliment!

I'm under five feet tall..."cute," "precious," and "cuddly" are what I hear all the time. Am I a person or a hamster?

But my dress is stored at my MOH's house (she's been my bestie since high school) and her older brother (who's one of P's good friends and a groomsman) looked at it and said, "Oh, Caitlin...that's gorgeous. *pause* Can I be a dude and still say that?"

    It made my life.

LOL! I totally understand, I totally get sick of being called "cute".Form the way I look to what I wear it's always "cute". For once I would just like people to say I'm "beautiful" or even "sexy". I guess thats why I got a fitted mermaid gown, trying to get rid of the cute factor :)

lol omg i totally feel ya!!!! i showed my maid of honor my dress online and all i got was oh thats "nice" it's kinda hard to picture it on you!!!! wth is that!!!!

lol now i'm venting!!!! ahahahaha at least you got "pretty" better than what i got....ahhhhh i'm almost tempted to not show any of my friends my dress!!! is that bad????

i just would rather not hear any negative comments!!! unless i look fat in the dress i'd rather not hear that the dress i'm absolutely in love with is ummmm "nice"!!!! cause we all have different taste in what we think is gorgeous!!!! ok enough venting!!!! lol

Just because she called the dress pretty doesn't mean that you won't be gorgeous when she sees you in the dress.  I was just looking at the models vs. real brides thread.  The dress on the model always looks pretty.  The bride at her wedding almost always looks stunning.
