All my life I’ve dreamed of a backyard wedding wity my closest friends and family, with music, food, and dancing all night. And that’s exactly what I’m getting. I’ve also dreamed of going to Paris. I’d love to go for our honeynoon, but unfortunately we have to choose. Wedding or Paris. I keep seeing people’s pictures of their Paris elopments and they’re just gorgeous. We’re both excited about the backyard wedding, as are both our families and friends, so I don’t want to cancel everything and fly to Paris either. I guess we could always save up to go to Paris for an anniversary or have a party when we get back, but I don’t know…

I would save up for Paris and go there at a later time.
Normally I would say that vacations always trump a one-day event, but I don’t see why you can’t do both in this case. I am assuming that the backyard wedding isn’t a hugely lavish affair that’s going to put you into debt for the next 5 years. You’ve wanted to do it your whole life… friends and family and FI is on board.. I would stick with it.
Paris will still be there.

Stick with what you two were super excited about.
Go to Paris to renew wedding vows (:

You guys are right. I should just try my best to be patient and wait for Paris. I love the idea of renewing our vows there!! Plus the ‘no civil union in Paris unless you’re a resident of France’ kinda bums me out and I’ve always wanted to see the ocean too, so I think we’ll go with a backyard wedding and Florida honeymoon like planned and go to Paris for a vow renewal 🙂

@marinesfiance: Yeah, we got married in Toronto in secret before our wedding. Although they know we didn’t get MARRIED married, no one questioned it.
Paris is great, but not gunna lie, out of the 3 times I went, the wedding week was stressful.
It’s a city you need to be completely relazed in.
