My girls ordered them super early (like a year in advance). Better to early than too late.
Mine did it in April for an October wedding. Alterations are in 2 weeks. I like it to be a little closer with the alterations so everyones weight is where it is most likely going to stay.
Mine ordered in March I think! They all came in in may or June!
My girls also ordered theirs a year in advance, but we didn't go with traditional bridesmaids' dresses. We got them from Anthropologie and they only sell their styles for a couple of months, if that.
When I was in my sister's wedding, we got them about six months in advance to allow for time for alterations. I got my dress about four months in advance for another wedding I was in. Our alterations were messed up for my sister's wedding, so thank God we ordered them in advance!
Your problem is basically that you have more time than you thought, so I wouldn't tell your girls to order them any later. It never hurts to have them too early, although I understand your frustration with the people at the shop because of their confusing advice! Just breathe... :)
My BMs and JBMs have ordered their dresses. David's Bridal gave them a deadline of July 31. Only 5 people haven't ordered yet. I am mad because one person is complaining that I have them ordering too early, but my wedding is less than 150 days away and around the holiday season. I may have to kick them out if they don't do it soon (I can understand if they are waiting for a payday to order, but ordering late because you don't feel like it is wrong).
October??? That seems really late to me. I've been to three different salons and they all suggested the end of August - and that is when I asked them to order their dresses by.
I think I ordered in late February for the beginning of July. They came in in May.
Thank you all for your input!
@brideatthebeach- That was my main frustration, that they were the ones that told me August in the first place and then they wanted to act like I was an idiot for thinking that! lol
@rachelrobin - I thought it seemed really late also!
@truegem - I would be frustrated as well! We're approaching the 150 day mark too and I think for some reason a lot of people still view January as a long time away. I worry about the holidays and everything too and would rather have my dresses sooner than later just to be safe.
Thanks for letting me vent ladies!

Okay so several months ago, all my BM's and I went together to choose our BM dresses together. They got measured, selected the dress and were told to order the dresses by early August. I thought we were all set. The other day, I went to the same store to get my dress hemmed for a friend's wedding I'm a BM in and I asked the lady if any of my BM's had ordered their dress yet. Here's how the conversation went from there...
Me: "Have any of my girls ordered their dresses yet?"
Lady: "When's your wedding?"
Me: "January 8th"
Lady: "Oh, honey. They shouldn't even think about ordering their dresses until LATE October!"
Me: "Late October? Last time I was in here, you told me August 9th!"
Lady: "Well, maybe you're right. I guess it wouldn't hurt to do it this early."
I was so frustrated! If I wait til late October, that won't leave much time for alterations!
So, when are you telling your girls to order theirs?
