My advice regarding implantation? Pretend you still know nothing about it. People will tell you they had implantation spotting, or cramping, or temp shifts or what-have-you but hormone shifts in the luteal phase are often the cause of these symptoms and have nothing to do with being pregnant. Out of all the cycles I thought I was pregnant, the ones in which I had no inkling at all were the ones I got my BFPs (2 MCs and 1 pregnancy). If you are due for AF this weekend, you still aren’t totally out with that BFN on the FRER, but I wouldn’t take another test until you are actually late. TTC will drive you crazy, try to ignore symptom spotting in the luteal phase and avoid testing until you are late. For me, every month I just told myself AF was coming, until she didn’t, and then it was an awesome surprise. Good luck!

Travel can delay ovulation, so you may not have ovulated when you think you did.  I’m not saying you’re out for this cycle, but that as a consequence, AF may be delayed whether you’re pregnant or not.  Three or four days before AF is still pretty early to test positive for most women, so it could be simply too early to tell at this point, especially if ovulation was delayed at all.

Implantation TYPICALLY happens around days 7-10 dpo, but occassionally happens earlier or later, (so again, depending on when/if implanation happened, it may simply be too early for a positive test).  Very few women have implantation bleeding, (approximately 70% of women DON’T have it), and lots of things can cause spotting/bleeding besides implantation; just having sex can cause a little bit of bleeding.  It sucks, because so many symptoms of early pregnancy are also symptoms of AF’s upcoming visit or something else entirely!

I would probably wait to test again, (and be sure you’re testing with FMU, when HCG levels are likely to be highest), on the day AF is due.  But again, if ovulation was delayed, your period would be delayed, so if AF DOESN’T show when expected but you’re still getting negative tests, I would keep testing every couple days until you get a BFP or your period.

Good luck!

Interesting to hear that 70% of women don’t get implantation bleeding. Have been having all the symptoms and keep checking for spotting, but nothing. All of the lists make it sound like spotting/bleeding is totally common. Thank you!

The trouble with PMS is that it mimics pregnancy…because your body prepares as if it were pregnant (ie, soreness, nausea, headache, etc.)

I know it’s hard to not do this, but try not to put too much stock in the physical signs and just wait to take a pregnancy test. That’s really the only thing that will tell you, and given the complexity of our bodies and how they change (I never got menstrual migraines until one cycle they just started showing up; most women don’t have implemantation bleeding; sometimes we eat something funny or are getting sick or who knows?), you’re likely to make yourself get all hyper.

Funny…I DID have implantation spotting. I was spotting from 7DPO until about 12DPO. I had cramps day 7 through about 9. Everyone was telling me I was just symptom spotting and to relax. Well, I’m pregnant. soooo….

late implantation is not unheard of but if you’re only a day away from AF and just started spotting, realistically, it’s probably AF. From what I understand, implantation spotting starts around 7 days before you expect AF.

Newbie1982:  well, the evening of 7DPO I got what felt like gas bubbles. Those kind of cramps. But they never came to fruition if you know what I mean. Then I think I was the morning of 8DPO I got a sharp pain in my lower abdomen that lasted about 10 seconds. After that it was minimal cramps here and there. Nothing much different then AF. The gas bubbles one was the strangest to me.

I did have lower back pain but I always have lower back pain right before AF so I didn’t pay much attention to that!

Newbie1982:  it depends on when you implant. If you implant late, you’ll get a late positive. There was one bee on the charters thread that got negatives until I think it was 18DPO.

ETA: I got a very faint BFP 11DPO
