I don't think I can attend after all :( but not because of the venue change. I'm just totally exhausted after this week, and am not sure that a stop on the way home from the airport would necessarily be the wisest move.
Maybe next time?
I'm super sad though, because I was waaaay excited to meet everyone.
Gtown is harder for me. I reverse commute and it takes me an hour -- so adding the circulator trip/walk makes me lazy. I'm all for anything that's on the metro, though.
I'm sure I can still make it, I'm just so lazy about getting to georgetown without the metro! Luckily, I work near farragut square and can hop on the bus :)
I'm definitely open to other suggestions! The only problem I'm running into is a few places I've called around to won't seat until the whole party is there, and some people don't show, and the number is a bit iffy.
Does anyone know of a good place maybe in the Dupont area?
I'll make it out to gtown if everyone is on board, I'll just be a tad bit late.
Maybe somewhere around GP/Chinatown? My knowledge is sadly low, a co-worker suugested we try Jaleo?
I just tried Jaleo. They don't have any open space at the time we want. At least not for a group of 10.
I would almost suggest one of the pubs near Union Station since that area is less of a destination than GP. There's the capital city brewers, kelly's irish times (which is a dive but a cheap dive!), and then a nicer irish pub right next to it. I've gone to drinks at all of them after work a few times and only remember capital city being busy. there's also a nice oyster bar down the street, but it's pricey.
In Dupont, I don't really know the area as well.
A friend just told me about Gazuza (on Connecticut Ave) its Latin AMerican and Ive been to their partner restaurant in Courthouse (Gua Rapo) and its really good!!! I dont know if they take reservations but you could try! And Jaleo doesnt take reservations for groups - EVER. It gets so crowded that when you walk in it feels more like a bar than a restaurant.
Also, another friend just recommended Kramer's Books and Afterwords
You could try James Hobans - it's near Dupont Circle, irish, and we went there last Friday and they had space (not at the bar, but in the next room) and it was really nice. I was impressed by the food (but have never been to Ireland). I don't know if they do reservations or not, but I was surprised by now un-busy they were.
oooo... union station! Okay, I'm biased because I take the Marc... :) But near there wouldn't hurt. Perhaps one of those places could take us?
Hehe, we could go to H&M at Metro Center ... :) Shopping is as much fun as food!
But seriously, we could do Chinese in Chinatown (Wok N Roll, Tony Cheng's, w/e) or La Tasca for tapas (since Jaleo was mentioned).
It's going to be impossible for me to get to Georgetown -- I just can't walk from the Metro on my still-bad ankle. :( But that doesn't mean you all should cancel your plans!
Darn it, I have a work thing that evening or else I would totally be there. Let's do another one real soon!
LaTosca in Chinatown takes reservations, or you can do cafe asia near federal triangle. (they have a pretty good happy hour.
I'll call up La Tasca in Chinatown and call around to places at Union Station. Although it seems like we less people saying they'll come, so what number should I tell people... maybe seven?
Oh! And there's the GT shuttle from foggy bottom/rosslyn if you still decide to do GT. Or you can take the K street circulator. It's how the neighbor gets to work every day. :)
We're in for anywhere, though Union Station is great for us too (walking distance from home).
Okay! Here's what I've got!
MAR DE PLATA at Dupont Circle is the best place I could find that could be a bit flexible on numbers. Around Union Station, I had problems with places being icky about wee ones, and were not too pleased that the number might be a bit shaky.
I have a reservation through Open Table. It's set for 10, but if we can hammer down the number more definitively, I can adjust the number to be more accurate without losing the reservation.
It's right by the metro. It's Tapas. It's splendid!
All those in favor?
***And sorry to those who weren't too keen on Dupont. I did my best! Thursday is a tough night, haha.
Argghhh I wanna go but I am deployed to Afghanistan right now! Enjoy ladies. Hopefully, there will be one when I get back in August.
I wish I could come! But I already had plans that night. Have fun ladies!
see everyone tomorrow! can one of the bees post the final time/place on the blog so that those who don't know about the local board might be able to come?
Ah Mar De Plata-stay away from their garlic shrimp, but the rest of their stuff is pretty good!
So bummed I won't be able to go!
less than a block from my office, i really have no excuses... so i'll be there!

We had originally chosen Ella's Pizza for our happy hour. Unfortunately during peak hours they do NOT take reservations at all. And for a group our size that's just not feasible.
I have another recommendation. Mr. Smith's of Georgetown on M Street. It's a great place. The happy hour specials are ridiculous and they always have lots of space and are really flexible.
Are you guys okay with Mr. Smith's? Sorry about Ella's. Having been there on a Thursday night, going without a reservation with a group of our size is not wise at all.
If you are all good with the change, the new information will be as follows:
6:30pm, THURSDAY JAN 21st
Mr. Smith's of Georgetown
Walk straight back to the Garden Patio. I'll be there early! :-) I'm six feet tall, so you can't miss me.
