Good Morning Bees,
After getting my THIRD stolen car/stolen purse/ stolen Christmas presents call TODAY, I would like to remind my darlings to lock their cars, take their purses with them and avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle when possible, if not cover them with blankets or store them under seats…I would hate for any of you to get Grinched by the awful, desperate people willing to make people suffer for their own benefit.

Ahhhhh!! I am really careful about always locking my car. It even has an alarm. I am also careful about locking up the house. You just never know.

UGH… I HATE it when I’m at the mall and I see bags in someone’s backseat! I always feel like leaving a note
I could have stolen your stuff… please be more careful next time!
Not A Douchebag, but can think like one.

unfortunately even locking doesnt always help. my fi puthis laptop under the seat of his truck a d they smashed his windows. nothing in plain sight,so no idea if they were just breaking in in the offchance or they somehow saw him do it, its the one big drawvack of trucks -no trunk/boot to store things in!

@MissNoodles: LOL! You should. It would be funny and helpful at the same time.

I used to work at a call center that took claims for auto glass repair. This time of year was so depressing. It’s just amazing how many people’s cars got broken in to while they were out in plain daylight! Don’t leave valuables in the car!!!

And (even though this has less to do with the car thing) consider using a cross-body purse. They’re much harder for theives to grab and take off with.

@MissNoodles: I can think of a certain mall on the west side of town where I ALWAYS see those type of offenders. I remember the year they had so many break-ins security cars were put out in full force.

We live in a fairly safe city. The most frequent crime we get here is shoplifting. I STILL lock my car doors and don’t leave anything in there. IF something is in there, it goes in the hatch with the cover over it. I had to break my FI of his awful habit of leaving his wallet in his car, in the little space under his CD player (I also had to break him of carrying his Social Security card around!).
FI’s aunt and uncle live in a small resort town in million dollar house and they NEVER lock their doors. They can go on a week’s vacation and leave their house totally open. They don’t even take house keys with them (or know where they are most of the time). FSIL actually locked them out of their house because she’s a chronic door locker, lol. But all of the houses on that side of the lake are always open and people borrow stuff from them all the time, which is a little weird. Half of our Thanksgiving dinner up there was cooked in the house next door.

@Nona99: I don’t get why people still do this! I’d NEVER leave my purse in my car. I never leave my purse unattended… period.
If I must leave shopping in the car, I make sure it’s out of sight.

@ForeverBirds: I totally do that when I travel. I bought a cross-body exactly for that purpose!

Totally not trying to offend, but….shouldn’t this be common sense?

@jellybeangreen246: I would think so….but we just racked up number 7 in my office…gonna be one of those days, and I’m hung over….shmeesh

I would be careful leaving your purse in your car in general. I was talking to a man last weekend who said that his wife left her purse under the seat out of sight but someone still broke in and stole it. They must have seen her leave the car without a purse.

To build on the original:
1. Disconnect the cable that allows your trunk to be opened from the cabin of the car. That way if you do get a break in, it is harder and takes longer for thieves to get into the trunk.
2. Do not make trips to your car to leave packages in the car or the trunk. Thieves stake out the parking lot and break into your car after you leave. If you have lots of shopping to do, hopefully your mall has a parcel check where you can safely store bags while you continiue to shop.
