Ugh. On Cyber Monday, I got excited and bought 100 paper lanterns, like these: http://imgur.com/tuIRvLA , but in black, white and grey. I got them for less than $1 a piece! So exciting! But now, I just booked my venue for both the ceremony and the reception, and in the contract it states that we cannot hang anything from the ceiling. Our venue looks like this: http://imgur.com/j5Dd8jf . Does anyone have any ideas on how I an still use these lanterns? I love them, and I don’t want to just sell all of them. 🙁

Use them as centerpieces! Type “paper lantern centerpieces” into Pinterest and check them out.

You could do these centerpieces that use paper lanterns
You need a heavy vase (or one weighted with rocks etc) , flexible rods (bamboo garden stakes, metal rods). The weight of the balloons causes the rods to bend. They are high enough that they do not obstruct anyone’s sight line across the table for conversation.
Or you could do something like this:

Love the last idea ! Can you also incorporate them into the ceremony lay them on the ground and use them as vases for flwoers to line the aisle or if you are having something like an arbor have a couple of them hanging as well

craigslist! We also used lanterns for the reserved seating rows instead of flowers.

Are their trees outside your venue? You could hang them there. Don’t worry, you’ll find a use for them!

Will they allow you to use 3M Command Strips? They allow you to hang things without nails and without damage. I used the heavier ones to hang curtains. If they still don’t want things hanging from the ceiling (if the ceiling tiles are too weak) maybe you can hang them high on the walls and string fishing wire between them and hang the lanterns from the wire? Note that you’ll really need the heavy duty ones and I’d do a few test runs to see what length spans and how many balloons they can handle.
