I have a lot of pictures of gowns that I fell in love with, but I only tried ones on that were in my budget. The one that I picked out is not one that I had a picture of, but each time I look at it or try it on, I fall more in love with it. And everyone that has seen it on me loves it too, so that makes me happy. I don’t look at other dresses anymore wishing for the one I love because the one I have is the one I love.

I was in LOVE with a Vera one that was silk taffeta and had some flair.  I ended up finding an Amsale with the same material much more affordably.  It can be done!  I also stopped looking once I had it. . .

Found mine as a sample and it was one I had seen on a web site, but could not find it on the makers site (the maker never did one, I even called them).  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it and only $150.

Have you tried this dress on.. the one you love but is not in your budget? It may make you feel better to know that some dresses look awesome in the photos, but once it is on your body, it sometimes just does not fit the same.

I loovvvve the look of the puffy, princess, ball gown dresses, but once I put them on, it’s like I’m lost in it. They look amazing on other women, in photos and on the hanger. But on me, they just don’t look good. So it may make you feel better to try on a very similar dress and see how it feels. They look sooo different in photos than on each individual woman’s body. When I remember how I felt and looked in the dress that I have ordered, I feel confident that I made the right choice. It wasn’t what I had always imagined I would wear, but it complimented my body. It is the most important thing to try it(or something simliar on) to either Love it or get over it. I’m sure the one you have on layaway is perfect. But it’s hard to remember when you keep seeing other ones. Try to stop looking. I shouldn’t talk, cause I still look, haha, but I think we should stop looking once we have decided.

I would agree that you should find a way to try on your “dream dress” if you haven’t already. Many brides find that the fantasy bubble bursts when they actually see/try on their dream dress. If you’ve done this and are still in love, you have time to keep an eye out for a good deal on a sample or used version. Check used wedding dress sites like oncewed.com, preownedweddingdresses.com, partypop.com and the Wedding Bee classifieds. You can post a “dress wanted” post too, to see what turns up. Also, consider doing a “saved search” on eBay (you will receive an email if anyone posts an auction for “your” dress). And check to see if the designer has trunk shows in your area. Remember, you should be able to sell your current dress to keep your budget sane.

If you do this in a relaxed way and keep perspective, you might just get lucky without stressing yourself out. If not, well…at least you’ve already got a pretty dress that makes you smile.

Beware:  I tried on my dream dress and HAD TO HAVE IT.  As in, $2500 over my budget had to have it.  Now I’m scrambling to cut costs everywhere else…it’s mostly coming out of flowers and decorations.  Plus I think we’re doing IPOD and friend DJ.

This is my dream dress and it’s not that I can’t afford it, it’s just not right for our event.  I’d KILL to have it as a reception dress.

I fell in love with a Kleinfeld dress that was 4x times what I paid for the dress I will be wearing… 🙁

@ chillmer: That dress is STUNNING. What is it? (Damn…now I have a new dress crush.)

@ love: Your dress crush is really new. Could make it harder to find used. Here’s a runway model picture of it. It’s not that flattering on the model. Definitely make sure you like this one ON before pursuing.
