So my FI is adamant no pro group pics be taken until after the ceremony. So that leaves our cocktail hour to take photos. Which means it will have to be at least 1.5 hours. I’m leaning toward a hour and 45 minutes though since I really want our photographer to have time to take some pics of our reception space before guests come in and our reaction to seeing it by ourselves without anyone else inside. Anyway, we know we’ll have plenty of hor d’ouerves (about 4-6 per person), but now I’m wondering if we should have the bar open up at the start of cocktail hour, or maybe about 30 minutes into it. I really don’t want a bunch of half drunk people at the beginning of the reception. Also, would it be tacky to have cards out on the tables for the cocktail hour so people wouldn’t get bored? FI’s family loves card games and I know they would play them. My dad is an enthusiastic card player too, so I think it would be a hit. Just not sure if it would be considered “tacky” though.
