My husband's an avid fly-fisherman, so instead of boutonnieres we had all the groomsmen wear "flies." My husband tied them all himself. We were originally going to put a flower on them too, but they looked so good, we just left them as is.
I think if I dont do them I wont do anything at all. I like the look of boutonnieres more than I like the look of corsages, but still, neither is great
We did flower corsages for the women but made the bouts for the guys out of game pieces...they were a hit!
We are having pocket square in the color of the girls' dresses.
I hope we can fold them like this...
Those flies are so adorable. Love it.
Surely other people must have done something besides flowers, im curious too!
We aren't doing bouts at all for the guys - not much of a fan. Check out Etsy for some fantastic bout alternatives in their wedding section - they have a lot! Also, Miss Gloss had her guys wear rope knots (she had a nautical theme to her wedding). They were too cute!
As for Bridesmaids, I'm doing clutches, but have also seen lanterns, pomanders, balloons and big pinwheels (off of Etsy). Hopefully this helps!
@argyle: Since you aren't doing bouts or bouquets, are you having bouts/corsages for the parents & grandparents or not? I think I might be scrapping the whole idea of bouts now too..
For some reason, I don't like the look of boutinnieres. We're going the same route as Champagne Wishes and just using pocket squares to match BM dresses.
We are doing feather bouts made by an etsy seller (hairbowswonderworld), here they are:

I love the idea of pocket squares for the gentlemen and clutches for the ladies :o)
Martha Stewart Weddings has some ideas for ribbon boutonnieres. It has several ideas if you look at other pages linked to the one below. It also has directions on how to make them.

we're making fabric flowers a la ms. martha. i'm pretty excited. :)
For the bouts we're using little whisk keychains to go along the same theme as my bouquet (kitchen utensils) and I'm going to try to get somebody on Etsy to custom make one for FI (thinking crossed chef's knives and some sort of accent in front of them probably) and I'm still not sure about the girls. I might splurge for a flower or two in my bouquet and one of the same flower for each of the girls to carry.

I know it's a big trend lately to do something else in place of flowers for GM's boutonnieres or something entirely different from boutonnieres, and in place of flower bouquets for the BM's. Is anyone doing an alternative to flowers on either one, or both? Why did you decide to do an alternative? What are you doing instead?
