We used Studio C and LOVED them. Around $5k.
Joey Scott and the Connection was awesome but out of our price range. ($7k or $8k?)
Where's your venue? (Just curious)
thanks for the recs worcesterbride, i will check them out.
we're getting married at Old Sturbridge Village
Hello!
I would recommend checking out the following bands:
Both bands are amazing in person, and really can keep the crowd on the dance floor.
Good luck!

We are using the Marsels... I've heard them at other weddings and at clubs around Boston and they are amazing! http://www.marsels.com/ They charge about $6k.
My friend used Booty Vortex. They are not a wedding band, per se. But they do perform at weddings. They were awesome. They often perform at Johnny D's, so you can probably check them out there. They do covers of soul and funk. They were awesome!
I booked through Murray Hill Talent Co. They were great! They manage several bands and they work with you to find exactly what you're looking for!
Stardust!!
OMG they were amazing at our wedding and they play evvverything. We payed 4k, but having a winter wedding I think it was the off season for them. We loved them!
The Chicken Slacks! You have to reeeally like Motown though cause it is all they play. We were already fans (they play Johnny D's frequently and are at the Cantab in Cambridge every Thursday) and they were really cool guys to work with. $3,800 and worth it to see the dance floor busy all night!
This doesn't apply to your wedding that much, but I wish we could have had The Dan Band at our wedding!
I went to 2 bridal shows recently and they had this band there "World Premier Band", they were through Entertainment Specialists www.entertainmentspecialists.com. They are local and pretty entertaining. They do pretty much everything too.
We booked the Winiker Band and are so excited!!
I learned its best to contact the band directly as you will get a much better rate than going through their agent.
Men in Black, who we are using for our wedding, was voted Best of Boston by the Knot. They are really, really fun.
www.goodtimestringband.com they were SO much fun at our Wedding Showcase this past February!
Sister Starfihs used the World Premier Band and peopel can't stop talkign baout how amazing they were, I have never been to a wedding where literally every seat was empty at the end of the night because everyone is dancing, except with them. They are so much fun. They are more pop and mo-town and some rock, but will learn a song or two for your wedding. They do take breaks, so you could include regga and bluegrass during those periods.
I think they were around 5-8k? I could ask Sister Starfish, but she booked in 08, so pricing will probably be different. Let me know if you have any specific quesitons. I have photos on my personal blog and a recap: http://newportnuptials.blogspot.com/2009/12/world-premier-band-vendor-review.html
I take it back - I don't love our band. Please read my review and beware!

Hi ladies!
Can anyone recommend an awesome band in Mass? My wedding's in August in Sturbridge.
DF loves reggae, rock, bluegrass (eh...)
I love Motown, pop, etc.
Also, what can we expect to pay for a good band? 10k? 5k? 3k?
Thanks so much!
