So, same as many of you, this is the year of the weddings for me. I have one to go to next month and the bride just told me her first dance song.
Lips of an Angel - by Hinder
How can you not see something wrong with this song as your first dance song. Its all about cheating with an ex. I wont say anything to her, because to her the song is "just so sweet" and its her and her FI's "theme song".
Has anyone else been to a wedding where the first dance song made you think "What?"
OMG. For real? A song about cheating is their theme song? Does she know what the lyrics mean, even?
Ive never been to one with an inappropriate song, but I had to comment on that one.
@zippylef:All she says is the song is the sweetest thing she has ever heard and makes her think of him. She swears she has read the lyrics. So its sweet to "find it hard to be faithful" because you are up all night talking to your ex...? I really want her to reconsider this but I don't want to blurt out that its kindof a messed up choice...
Actually I knew a girl who met her guy when he was in the process of leaving his wife and they were high school sweethearts and she dubbed this their song. I always thought "Better than me" was a good follow up to it. lol
Are you serious? Do they not listen to the lyrics at all?
I heard a lady call into the radio station once to here her and her husband's song..."How do you like me now?" by Toby Kieth.

This totally reminds me of U2 talking about "One".
'The band have been told by many fans that they played the song at their weddings, prompting Bono to respond, "Are you mad? It's about splitting up!"'
Oh man, that's a choice she's likely to regret later on! i can't stand that song because I think the concept is deceitful and disgusting! I've never been at a wedding where I remember hearing a horrible first dance song, but I have heard people mention how John Mayer's "Daughters" is a great father/daughter song. Except if you really listen to it it's a horrible choice. (I may have just offended someone there OOPS! To each their own!)
I swear people don't listen to all the lyrics anymore.
@MickyLovesMinnie:If he did I wouldn't be proud of that as his wife and I wouldn't broadcast it to my entire guest list. I wont say anything but I wanted to know that I'm not alone in thinking this is off.
LOL. Yeah, I hear the music first and the lyrics after I've fallen in love with the tune. That's no reason to use a song with a pretty tune but an awful message at a wedding. It seems like a no brainer to check the lyrics and song meaning first.
The last wedding we went to (horrible), their first dance song was "Sexual Healing". Yeah... We were like WTF?

I went to a wedding where the first dance was in Spanish. Sorry I don't remember the song. It sounded REALLY pretty but a cousin of the bride informed us that it was about a man that kills his wife because he loves her so much. Awkward.
This just made me laugh, out loud. And I work in a library. Seriously though - "Lips of an Angel" is possibly one of the worst first dance song choices I've ever heard, but I sort of understand the music/lyrics disconnect. My FI is a former band geek, and according to him, he never, ever "hears" the lyrics of a song - he just hears the music. Now, me, I'm all about the lyrics and the meaning.
I doubt the DJ would say anything. They're getting paid to do what the bride/groom want.

@greenmint: I've heard this too, my FI is a drummer by hobby, and he has told me the same thing... but then there are still people like you, or me, who actually are ALL about the lyrics.
I can hear a song for the first time, hate it, learn the lyrics, and it totally grows on me. WEIRD.
Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll do the instrumental version! LOL!
But... wow. just... wow. I'm one who listens to the lyrics and I'm be going "WTH?!?!?!"
So yeah, hopefully she has a reception full of music people, and not lyric people!

I know a lot of brides pick "every breath you take" by the police, but if you listen to the lyrics its about a stalker.
LOL! I had 2 friends who said that Lips of an Angel song was 'their song' too... I was so confused.
@Corilee13: I don't know but they had it as the ring tone when the other called and they would sing it to each other when it came on the radio. hahahahaha
This is like when people choose that song "Every Breath You Take" which is about a stalker, LOL.

This just blew my mind. Like. Really? If I went to a wedding and this was played as the first dance (or kind of...at all?) I would have to work really hard to not judge immediately. Like, REALLY hard. Lol.
Ah!!!! that totally reminds me of this wedding I went to when I was younger (like 11) and their "song" was "Lets get it on"
