My husband and I both work for the same guy. Hub is a tattoo artist and I do laser tattoo removal.
Last night, my husband send me a text telling me that our boss wanted me to stop by the tattoo shop on my way home from work. Of course, my mind immediately went to, “Oh God what did I do to get fired?!” Our boss had to leave before I could get there so I wasn’t able to see him last night, so I had to go in this morning. I did not sleep well at all.
I went into my boss’s office and he told me, “Bob (my other boss) and I got you a little bonus. We know how hard you work and we appreciate it. We know you’re underpaid and we wish we could pay you more but we can’t afford it right now. Your gift is in the back of my car.”
I am the proud owner of a brand new black 5-quart KitchenAid mixer. I am so happy I could cry! It’s so wonderful knowing I’m appreciated 🙂

That’s awesome! So sweet 😀
I have an amazing boss. She’s just an amazing person, and I really look up to her, not just for work but from what I know about how she conducts herself as a person in and out of the office as well. She’s so attentive to her employees, she’s pretty much what everyone would love to have in a boss 😀

@s2bmrscook: I don’t have awesome boss stories, but I think it’s hilarious (and awesome) that your husband does tattoos and you do tattoo removal. Talk about cornering the market!

That is so nice!
I have a really great boss too. I started working at my current job in June 2012 and was getting married November 2012. Before my wedding my boss threw me kind of a bridal shower type thing at work and it was so thoughtful, unexpected, and really truly appreciated!
Aside from that he really likes having company potlucks and bbqs and on those days we go to Costco together to pick up supplies and he almost always throws down about $300 of his own money towards these events. He often goes around the office to visit with the employees, even though he is usually ridiculously busy, and he’s just a nice guy which provides us with a nice work environment.

I recently went on a hot holiday but was short a few days vacation time. I emailed my boss and said I would borrow it from my next years banked time. He instantly emailed back and said “I am sure if you have another look at your calendar, you had banked time you forgot to count. Have fun on your holiday”.
Basically saying – we will just pretend you had enough banked time to cover it.
Hes the best

That is awesome!
I have a really great boss as well. He throws us a pizza party every month at work, and we have an employee party twice a year. He totally believes in keeping morale up in the office.
He gives us a bonus just “because” in the middle of the year that he pays out of his own pocket, and he gives us christmas bonuses as well, out of his own pocket.
This past christmas, he wrote in my card [he normally signs each one, but he wrote a message in mine], about how 2014 was my year and wishing me much happiness during wedding planning.
I thought that was super nice of him.
He’s really a great guy… he likes to sit around and tell stories to his workers.. which can sometimes be annoying because I feel super rude when I’m trying to get something done, I actually have to tell him, “hey, i’m going to wash the windows, so if you’d like to continue, come with me!”, and he does.
He has ALOT of money and owns many businesses, the town I work in is actually named after him because he developed the area. He started with nothing so he’s not a rich jerk, he wears normal people clothing [shirts, jeans], talks normal [not down to you].

I complain about being underemployed and bored all the time, but really my bosses are wonderful. We talk sports, it feels like a small family here, and they are so flexible and understanding if you need to stay home, leave early, come in late. They believe family and personal health comes first, and that nothing we do in the office will blow up if we need to take care of other matters first.

I, too, have an awesome boss! She started the non-profit I work for more than 40 years ago and has been the Executive Director ever since. She’s turning 70 this year and works harder than anyone I have ever met; she doesn’t stop. I admire all she has done professionally and for kids and families over the years. It’s truly amazing.
Plus, she’s funny and easy to get along with. She really appreciates everything I (and the rest of the staff) do to make her organization run smoothly. And she’s flexible as anything – she’s always so excited for you when you ask for time off for vacation or stuff like that.
