Wow- she made it look so easy and painless! That definitely was not my experience giving birth to DS (hospital birth). It was interesting, but I still don’t think water births are for me. I remember having no desire to get in the tub in the hospital.

Yay, my fi and i are planning to TTC very soon after our wedding. I am planning a homebirth, where i’d like to give birth in my jacuzzi tub. I had an unmedicated hospital bith with my son.. that was THE most amazing experience ever. I can’t imagine how great a homebirth will be :).  There is something O so special about the super oxytocin rush you get after the natural birth of a child!

@CreatureFromTheBlackLagoon:  OP didn’t say it was painless.

ETA: You may have been referring to the description of the video itself.. your post was unclear and sarcastic, hard to tell.

@lorelai:  I love the idea of using water as a pain relief tool, but I’m not sold on the idea of staying in the water the entire time. Who knows though, when the time comes!

@lorelai:  I understand staying in the water to deliver the placenta, but it did seem like she stayed in there for a long time even after that! She looked comfortable though and was probably just trying to take everything in and let her body have a moment.

Really cool video, thanks for posting!

@lorelai:  I think the number one, most important thing for me, was having good support. My son was not positioned in a way that made labor and delivery easy (or painless), but i had my support team (doula, midwife) with me every step of the way.. assuring me that i was doing a good job, and doing the right thing. I was a 20 year old child at the time, so i can’t say i had a whole lot of confidence in myself. This time will be different. I am so confident in our ability to birth babies! It wasn’t, in my experience, the screaming, panicky stuff you see on TV. I was very quiet throughout the labor, but was pretty vocal for the pushing. The moment my son was born is a feeling that i can’t even attempt to describe. The best way i can think, is that i had a high from taking THE most amazing drug ever :). I was in labor for 21 hours and couldnt get to sleep until late the next day because i was literally euphoric. It’s defnitely do-able. However, i have seen in some of my friends’ birth experiences, that if you have a Dr who is not supportive of natural birth… it is damn near impossible to achieve. Also, you do need to have the mindset that not all pain is created equal, and not all pain is “bad” pain. I reminded myself throughout, that this was the work i needed to do to see my baby. And on a completely other note, birth hurts, whether medicated or not. I went through a painful ordeal to deliver my son, but was able to get up, immediately after birth and nursing, and clean MYSELF up. I had zero recovery. I have seen many of my friends exhausted and miserable after their medicated births/csection. IMO, it seems like a “suffer now” or “suffer later” kind of thing. I used that time, that my friends were suffering, to bond and nurse my baby.

Well she made that look easy enough… sweet video. Loved seeing them snuggle her when she came out.

@lorelai:

@PermaStudent:

I obviously was referring to the subject at hand, which was the woman in the video who insists in the beginning it was painless and the description, “Elovie’s peaceful birth in water captures the possibility of a painless, serene birthing experience at home”.
