I’m sorry you are going through this. Would it be possible for you to do two weddings? Go with his family to Bermuda and then have a bbq bash back home…or try to think of another way to do things twice. Maybe the actual wedding is home, and the party is in Bermuda…or however you could work it.

Maybe start with a bottle of wine or a beer and share what the most important parts of the wedding (ceremony and reception) are for each of you.  See if you can create the feel you are looking for with the people who are important to you and redefine Burmuda for yourselves.  You’ll get there – you just need to adjust your thinking.  I’m so sorry you have to change your plans, but how exciting to maybe have the cruise and a local wedding!?!  Good luck, honey.  🙂

Could you do an intimate Bermuda wedding followed by a lager homeparty, a la Mrs. Nachos?  Would you be able to help your parents out financially to ensure their attendance?  Does it have to be Bermuda?  There are lots of sunny, happy beaches in the U.S. where you could achieve the same feel for less money.

I think your FI is being a touch Groomzilla.  How would he feel if the situation were reversed and his family couldn’t afford the trip?   There’s also a lot of room between DW and courthouse for the two of you to come up with a satisfactory alternative.

Did he mention why, specifically, the Bermuda idea excited him?  Are there things about that kind of celebration that can be translated into a non-destination wedding?

I’m sorry to hear about your family troubles. =0/

We’re also having a destination wedding and alot of our family isn’t too happy with us either, but with all of my family spread all over, we thought it was the most fair thing to do.

To make it more affordable, we’re getting married on a cruise ship in Miami. It will be followed by a one hour hors d’oeuvre reception.  Then our guests who will be joining us on the 3 day cruise to the Bahamas will stay on the ship and the guests who decided not to embark on the cruise will have to exit the ship.

But this way, we can still celebrate our wedding with those who go on the cruise with us and those who cannot.  They’re different levels of couse, but it’s an option you might want to consider. =0/

We’re using Carnival because it’s more affordable, but just check out the ports that the major cruise lines cover and see if any of them will be convenient for your family.

Hope this helps!

What if you do a little JOP wedding with your family..mom, dad, grandmother and then go out to a fancy restaurant?

Check with where you are having your wedding if there is wi-fi around that area and skype the wedding.  That is what I am doing for mine. We are getting married on a cruise in Hawaii and most people won’t be able to make it. So I am going to have someone skype it..either from a small laptop or their iphone.
