there is actually a pretty nice collection of indie wedding songs on iTunes!!
How about One Big Holiday by My Morning Jacket? I love the instruments on the track...
Okay, I wouldn't necessarily classify it as "indie" but check out "Lullaby" by The Spill Canvas.
It's one of our songs and will either be played during our processional or first dance.
P.S. the bridge is my favorite part!
While you were sleeping I figured out everything,
I was constructed for you, and you were molded for me.
Now I feel your name, coursing through my veins
You shine so bright it's insane, you put the sun to shame.
Makes me all teary-eyed every time!
The Arcade Fire- "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels"
"You change all the lead
sleepin' in my head to gold,
as the day grows dim,
I hear you sing a golden hymn,
the song I've been trying to sing."
I love that one :)
These are all awesome suggestions. We are putting them on our "Must Play" list. :-)
In case you were wondering, we settled on Such Great Heights - the Iron & Wine version.
Thanks for your suggestions and help!
The Iron & WIne version is MUCH superior to the original, IMO. Good choice. :)
I need to youtube these songs - I don't know of any of them...OY
Iron & Wine=Greatness
Check out this board, TONS of good ideas.
@danadelphia I was going to get a portrait done by Nan Lawson but I just don't have the cash for it now. :-/ I Love yours!!
Here's our music lineup so far -
Processional - Lucky Man - The Verve
Bridal Processional - Such Great Heights - Iron and Wine
Recessional - You're My Best Friend - Queen (sounds like something they would play at the end of a movie after a couple gets married as the credits roll!)
First Dance - You Are The Best Thing - Ray Lamontagne
great choice! we are using ben folds- luckiest and bright eyes- first day of my life
@zippylef: thanks for that link! We are still collecting songs to choose from for parts of the ceremony, and I found some helpful threads on that site.
nice choices! I've been JAMMING to queen lately, so I appreciate seeing it in your lineup!
I'm going against the grain though - I prefer the original Such Great Heights. But either way, a slammin' song. I went the easy route and let the steel drummers do whatever they wanted for the ceremony, but we did the Beatles for our processional - all you need is love.
It's great hearing everyone's choices! Music is very important to my fiance and I as well (he runs an indie record label and we are huge music fans). We chose a cellist and guitar duo who arrange rock/indie rock/classic songs that sound amazing!
We are going with:
-Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" for the seating of the grandmothers
-"Blackbird" by the Beatles for the bridal party entrance
-"This Must be the Place" (naive melody) by the Talking Heads for when I am walking down the aisle /reprise for recessional
-They will play songs by Bloc Party, Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, etc. during the cocktail hour
-Our first dance will be Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," but we were really torn with Bright Eyes "First Day of my Life" too!
@mgbrooklyn - I love Perfect Day too, but it always makes me think of that scene in Trainspotting. lol I love your song choices though!
Love this thread! I'm walking to Hoppipola by Sigur Ros, don't know if that's considered Indie so much as... Icelandic... but I LOVE both Perfect Day and First Day of My Life. Yay!
@sweetadelinexo - I know, I know....I'm a huge Trainspotting fan, so that was my first thought, too. Haha. I still love the song...and if anything I think our weird love for that movie makes it even more appropriate for us. Luckily I think that reference will go over (most) of our guests' heads...haha!
commonshin- Sigur ros!! What a great choice for walking down!! Why didn;t I think of that?? I wanted to walk down to Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentlemen" but was very quickly booed by tateless folks (ie mom, brother, fiance). They are all pushing me to find an instrumental song. Sigur Ros is close enough for me!!
I love "here we are!" But I vowed no slows at all...everything has to be rocking so all can dance hard all the time.
Any of you having trouble satisfying guests' taste in music while keeping to your love of indie?

I'm trying to find a good song to walk in to - something on the Indie Rock side of things. I'm just at a loss. Any suggestions?
