I'm going to do some sessions in a tanning bed before the wedding. The lady at the tanning salon told me I should use a bronzer lotion. Are they just trying to sell me extra stuff or does it really help to use a bronzer or intensifier/activator?

    Any advice or product suggestions?

p.s. I am well aware of the risks of indoor tanning, so please don't lecture about that.

I do indoor tanning as well and I started six months before my wedding day because I don't prefer to use bronzers. If you need a quick fix, they'll do the job, but I think they make me look orange. I've heard White to Black is good. iTan is good. and I personally use Maui Babe (for indoor tanning and outdoor... it's amazing...) check out how much darker I am than my bridesmaids::

i liked Paint It Black. It worked great for me and kept the stinky after tan odor away. I use it when i go lay outside, too

I like anything by Designer Skin.  I've used one with bronzers and I haven't turned orange at all.  I also just bought one with tingle in it and I love it.

wow @jgoulart you are super dark!

I've got Irish skin and hair, so I wont be getting that dark, but do you think Maui Babe would work for getting a lighter color too?

@ejs- thanks for the suggestion. Paint it Black seems to be one of the cheaper options, so I might go with that.

@Laura27- The designer skin website has way too many options and I have no idea which one would work for me. What is the one that you use called?

Although I'm not tanning for my wedding quite yet, I am trying to get a little color for a wedding I am attending. I have tried lotions in past and have hated them (a lot of them have tingle or "heat") and I have pretty sensitive skin. My tanning salon really tried to push a lotion sale on me, but I refused. Then one day they were offering a free lotion sample of my choice. I asked with the salesgirl would recommend and she gave me a sample of Masquarade by Designer Skin. I love it!! It smells really good and has a slight bronzer to help boost the tan. A full bottle is like 30$, but I really think it helps get a better, darker tan.

I own a tanning salon and totally agree you should use a lotion.  Lotion is designed to put moisture back into your skin.  Designer Skin is my company of choice too.  Their bronzers are amazing.  Monarchy or Masquerade would be too medium priced lotions you might try.  I personally have had great luck with "Irish" toned skin tanners using Ambrosia by CalTan.  The smell of Designer Skin is MUCH better.  Good luck!

I tan as well.  I use the lotion California Dream.  It has NO tingle because I hate that (it makes my skin burn!) but it has a bronzer!  I really like it and it was only $35!  Some of those lotions can be $75! <---crazy!

whatever you buy, buy it on amazon.com! It's so much cheaper. And i started tanning a month before my wedding. I don't think you need a ridiculous head start on tanning...i went about 3 times a week and was still plenty bronzed for the wedding. If you overdo it, you will look weird and your skin will lose a lot of luster. It just happens.

@Jacqi -- A couple of my best friends from VERMONT who are super duper "angelic" (as we like to call the pale toned.) Used it and it made a difference. It has Aloe, Vitamin D, Kukui Nut oils, and Kona coffee. All natural and AWESOME> one use and you will see a difference. Check it out online. It's not super expensive, but it's like $24 for a 12 oz bottle I think? The more you buy (go in with a friend) the cheaper it is.

    :)

I totally agree with ppoolefromnc == I do always use lotion AFTER I tan, and every day after I shower, but still not a huge fan of bronzers, especially since some do have that smell. I do occasionally use them though... not totally against them.

Though my natural skin was not so pale that I would look sick yet it was quite fair. Once my wedding date was fixed, I had three moths to change my looks. I was working as an HR Manager so I had hardly any time to go out of my ac cabin. Then I decided to use sunless tanning lotions. As I wasn’t too keen of using normal bronzers, I started using sunless tanning lotions from Peau d’ Or. They have the real bronzing affect and after just a month of use, everybody noticed the difference. And on my wedding day I looked as brown as Serena Williams! Isn’t it great???
