@MissOtter:  We went to Jamaica and it was expensive.

However a couple years ago we got an all-inclusive trip to Cayo Coco, Cuba and only paid $1200 for the two of us. It was beautiful and the deal was fantastic.

It would be illegal for people in the U.S. to travel to Cuba, but I’ve heard we can get there through Aruba!

Try Riviera Maya or Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

@MissOtter:  Flew from Canada presumably, since she’s in Canada. No restrictions.

it depends on where you want to go. if you want to stay in the US, there are family resorts that are all-inclusive. if you want to go outside, there are also options.

check http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/best-affordable-all-inclusive-resorts for options inside the US

@Lyndzo:  i had a friend go to cuba a couple years ago, she said it was AMAZING. she’s canadian, too (and from milton, randomly enough). but i think that people from the US can’t fly to cuba, or even travel there.

If you’re open to where you go, there is a place called cheapcaribbean.com that you can search all inclusives by budget and it gives you a variety of resorts and length including airfare.  The only thing is that the really great deals tend to be only 3-4 months ahead max.  We’re planning to snag a mini-moon deal from there after the first of the year.

@MissOtter:  Cuba is so awesome!!! Too bad Americans are not allowed to visit there only Cuban Americans are allowed to go to Cuba. The prices are soooo cheap to go there and it is a super popular place that Canadians like to go to (I had my destiantion wedding there) Maybe try looking for deals in Jamaica and Dominican or even Mexico

Are you committed to all inclusive? How much are you looking at spending?

Have you looked into any travel shows/expos near you? The last 10 trips I’ve taken, I have purchased at a travel show. My last trip I went on was to Grenada in March. The flight was 600 dollars – but the hotel, which included breakfast, was 400 (for 2 people) for the week thanks to the travel expo. Since the hotel was inexpensive, we were able to splurge on food and drinks while on vacation which was wonderful.

Ladies, travel to Cuba is not illegal for Americans. However, it is limited. This article does a great job at explaining those restrictions, and how one can legally travel to Cuba (ala Jay-Z and Beyonce). http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peggy-goldman/traveling-to-cuba_b_3062395.html

As far as cheap all-inclusives go – check out the Domincan Republic. That will be the cheapest bet by far. Look at Cheap Caribbean, they always have good deals.

@MissOtter:  FI and I are going to Dominican Republic, in August for a week. It cost us about $1200 each, with travel medical insurance. We booked thorugh expedia 🙂

ETA: A friend of mine told me that we paid on the higher end for an all inclusive in DR though, she said she normally goes for about $750 for a week. You just have to look thorugh the hotels, and see what you like.

Americans travelling to Cuba is possible but they make it a real pain in the ass.   You need permission from the treasury department and you can’t travel there for “leisure”, and also you can’t spend american dollars there.

With that being said…. Cuba is amazing and one of my favourite places.  It’s a different world
